Bissell Issues Recall for 3.2 Million Handheld Steam Shot Cleaners Due to Burn Hazards

Bissell has initiated a recall for approximately 3.2 million handheld Steam Shot cleaners after receiving numerous reports of burn injuries. This recall follows over 150 instances where users reported burn injuries from the device. The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on Thursday, July 18, 2024, highlighting the risk associated with these popular cleaning tools.

Reason for the Recall

The affected Steam Shot cleaners have been identified as posing a risk of expelling hot water or steam while heating or during use, potentially causing burns to the user. According to Bissell, there have been 183 reports of incidents where hot water or steam escaped from the device, including 157 reports of minor burn injuries.

Products Affected

The recall specifically targets steam cleaners within the model series 39N7 and 2994. Products from these series have “STEAM SHOT” or “POWER STEAMER” marked on their sides.

These products have been sold in major retailers including Target and Walmart, as well as online through Bissell’s own site, Amazon, and HSN, from August 2008 to May 2024. Approximately 355,000 units of the recalled product were sold in Canada.

Consumer Guidance

Bissell advises customers who own the affected models to cease using the steam cleaners immediately. Consumers are offered a $60 credit or a $40 refund as compensation and are encouraged to visit the dedicated website provided by Bissell for information on how to register for the recall: www.BISSELL.com/steamshotrecall
