Saros 10R Review: The Best We’ve Seen So Far

The Saros 10R is one of the latest flagship robot vacuums from Roborock. We bought one and evaluated it in various real-world scenarios over the past few weeks, and it’s packed with all the cutting-edge specs and features you’d expect from a top-of-the-line robot vacuum. It even has some new features and significant upgrades from previous models. In this Saros 10R review, we’ll go over the pros and cons and reveal where it stands in our Vacuum Wars Top 20 Robot Vacuum list

Roborock Saros 10R Robot Vacuum is Vacuum Wars' Best Premium Pick

The Roborock Saros 10R features a 3.14-inch profile and StarSight Autonomous System 2.0, eliminating the need for a raised LDS unit and allowing it to clean under low-lying furniture. It excelled in our obstacle avoidance tests, demonstrating reliable 3D sensing and a VertiBeam Lateral Obstacle Avoidance system that navigates cables and various types of furniture. The HyperForce suction, combined with a zero-tangle brush configuration, addresses different floor surfaces, while the AdaptiLift Chassis helps it cross thresholds up to 4cm and automatically lift its mops on carpets. A 10-in-one Multifunctional Dock handles tasks such as dust collection, mop washing, and drying, and the built-in “Hello Rocky” voice assistant supports offline voice commands for added convenience. Roborock Saros 10R robot vacuum

You can get Saros 10R in two different configurations. The unit we bought has the standard auto-empty mop washing station, but there’s a version that can hook directly to your plumbing system. This lets you automate filling the clean water tank and emptying the dirty water tank.

However, don’t mistake the Saros 10R for the Saros 10, which was released around the same time and at a similar price but with a few minor changes. Notably, the Saros 10 has a retractable top-mounted LiDAR and a slightly different mopping configuration. We’ll review that version in the future.

Saros 10R review: evaluation and performance

We put the Saros 10R through its paces to evaluate its performance in real-world cleaning scenarios. Overall, the robot vacuum was very impressive, showing strong results across key metrics.

  • How Vacuum Wars Tests Robot Vacuums: Step into the world of Vacuum Wars, where real-world tests, straight-forward reviews, and no sponsored products redefine robot vacuum evaluations.

Vacuuming and hair pick up

Like most Roborock models, the Saros 10R excels at sweeping debris from hard floors and carpets. It uses the relatively new Duo-Divide main brush. That means it has two brush rolls with a gap in the middle to channel hair and prevent tangles.

In our 7-inch hair evaluation, the Saros 10R performed perfectly by resisting 100% of the hair.

A performance chart comparing the Roborock Saros 10R’s 7-inch hair tangle test result of 0% tangling to the average score of 39% tangling.

Additionally, Saros 10R picked up 92% of flattened 2.5-inch pet hair on carpet, with the average being 80% for that evaluation.

There’s also a newly designed Flexi-Arm hair-resistant side brush that works well in both sweeping and preventing hair tangles.

Also, the new Flexi-Arm side brush automatically extends for better corner coverage and worked very well in our evaluations.

Carpet Deep Clean Test

The Roborock Saros 10R outperformed many competitors in picking up deeply embedded debris. In our carpet deep clean test, we embedded sand deep into a medium-pile test carpet and measured the vacuum’s internal dustbin weight before and after the test. The Saros 10R achieved an impressive 80% pickup rate, surpassing the 75% average of all vacuums we have evaluated.

Another huge advantage for the Saros 10R is its navigation and obstacle avoidance. It uses what Roborock calls StarSight Navigation, which was first introduced last year on the Roborock Slim.

This system uses the industry’s first dual-transmitter solid-state LiDAR combined with time-of-flight sensors. That eliminates the need for a top-mounted spinning LiDAR sensor while still achieving excellent mapping and navigation results.

The new system also allows for a super low profile of 3.14 inches, meaning the robot vacuum can get under furniture that other robots (typically an inch taller) cannot.

In addition, its front-mounted obstacle avoidance system has been upgraded with a camera-based system featuring AI recognition (trained on 108 objects), a vertical light beam, and a rear sensor.

Together, these improvements enabled the Roborock Saros 10R to achieve a perfect score of 24 out of 24 in our obstacle avoidance evaluations. The robot vacuum mop combo could spot even the smallest objects that many competitors, including most Roborock models, miss.

A performance chart showing the Roborock Saros 10R scoring a perfect 24 on the obstacle avoidance test, compared to the average score of 16.

Note that there are three sensitivity settings for obstacle avoidance, and we always chose the maximum during our Saros 10R Review.

Adapt-Lift Chassis

In addition to a front wheel lifting mechanism (first seen on the Edge and Curv models), the Saros 10R features omnidirectional wheels and a wheel-lift mechanism. This helps it overcome thresholds and obstacles like U-shaped chairs.

We evaluated these features by first programming the threshold in the app, and it successfully cleared boards of 20 mm and 26 mm.

A side-by-side comparison of the Saros 10R attempting to clear two different thresholds—one with a standard height and another with an elevated wooden board.

Roborock claims it can clear up to 44 mm with two-tiered thresholds. However, we found it couldn’t clear single-tiered thresholds at around 36 mm. Even so, the results show a significant improvement over previous robot vacuums, though further assessment is needed for consistency.

Mopping system

The mopping system is another major strength of the Saros 10R robot vacuum. It uses two spinning mop pads with electronically controlled water dispensing, and one mop pad can automatically extend when it senses edges for better coverage.

A close-up view of the Roborock Saros 10R’s mop pads attached to the underside of the vacuum.

Its mop pads can lift 8 mm when the robot vacuum detects carpets, allowing it to vacuum without wetting your carpets or rugs. You even have the option to set vacuuming carpets as the first task. Plus, for the first time on any Roborock, you can have it leave its mop pads behind when vacuuming carpets and then return to pick them up for the mopping run.

So there are essentially three different ways to ensure effective cleaning on homes with mixed floors.

Mopping performance

In our dried stain mopping evaluation, the Saros 10R scored 103 points, which is better than average

Multifunctional Dock

Saros 10R has a multifunctional dock that operates as a charging station and a place for the robot to empty its dust bin automatically into a disposable bag.

The dock also washes the mop pads with hot water, dries them with hot air, and refills the robot’s mop tank.

There’s also a self-cleaning mechanism with a removable module that has two spinning squeegees, a dirty water sensor that triggers additional cleaning if necessary, and a quick-charging feature.

Feature Rich App

This robot vacuum has one of the best mobile apps in the industry, featuring advanced scheduling, multi-level maps, virtual barriers, a voice-activated assistant, and advanced pet-related features. For example, you can have it look for your pet and interact with them. The overall setup was also easy, and the user experience is excellent.

Cons of the Saros 10R

While the Saros 10R delivers impressive results across key areas, no robot vacuum is perfect. There are a few potential drawbacks to consider that may matter to you, depending on your specific needs.

The mapping and navigation are good, but the absence of a top-mounted LiDAR appears to reduce efficiency slightly. At least, compared to similarly priced Roborock models that include this feature. It seems Roborock made a slight trade-off for the slim design. However, it scored average in our navigation efficiency evaluation, which is still a passable grade.

Internal dust bin

Another potential drawback is that its internal dust bin is smaller than average at 270 ml. But you can manage this issue by programming the robot vacuum to return to its base more frequently during runs—especially if you have large dogs and lots of pet hair.

Saros 10R Review: Our conclusion and recommendation

After considering all factors, the Roborock Saros 10R won the number one spot on our Top 20 Robot Vacuum list. It was very close to the Roborock Qrevo Edge in terms of points, so seeing how rankings evolve in the coming weeks as new products are released will be interesting.

However, for now, the Saros 10R is our favorite overall robot vacuum among 100+ models we’ve bought and evaluated independently. If you’re looking for a high-performance robot vacuum with top-tier cleaning power, advanced navigation, and an innovative mopping system, the Saros 10R is an excellent choice.
