How to choose a robot vacuum and mop combo
The best model for your home depends on the mop design, stain performance, water control, carpet handling, dock automation, and how much maintenance you want to do yourself.
Fixed pads, spinning pads, and roller mops
Fixed pads range from simple microfiber cloths on gravity-fed water tanks to vibrating modules with electronically controlled water flow. Dual spinning pads add an active scrubbing motion and are common on mid-range and premium robots. Roller mops continuously rotate while a squeegee removes dirty water, helping the roller refresh itself as it moves across the floor.

We measure water left on the floor separately by weighing an absorbent material before and after a standardized run. Robots are penalized for leaving excessive water, which helps prevent a model from earning a high stain score simply by soaking the test area.
The best balance depends partly on your flooring. Sealed tile may tolerate more moisture than moisture-sensitive wood or laminate, but controlled water delivery is valuable on every surface.

These features can help, but their implementation varies. Actual stain and edge-cleaning performance matters more than whether the feature appears on the specification sheet.
