Eureka E20 Evo Plus Review: A Smart Budget Robot With Some Important Trade-Offs

The Eureka E20 Evo Plus is an entry-level robot vacuum and mop combo with several features that set it apart from others in this segment. We bought one ourselves and put it through our full series of evaluations to see how well those features come together. In this Eureka E20 Evo Plus review, we’ll reveal how the model impressed us, where it falls short, and what kept it from becoming one of our favorites in this category.

The Eureka E20 Evo Plus is an entry-level robot vacuum and mop whose standout feature is a bagless auto-empty dock, eliminating the recurring cost of disposable dust bags. It combines efficient LiDAR navigation, strong battery coverage, excellent resistance to long-hair tangles, and good basic surface pickup with a useful app that supports multi-level maps, schedules, no-go and no-mop zones, carpet boost, and adjustable water levels. Its 10 mm mop lift lets it vacuum carpet and mop hard floors in one run. The trade-offs are important: suction and airflow were relatively low in our evaluations, pet-hair and crevice pickup lagged, obstacle avoidance is limited, and mopping used more water than we prefer. It is best suited to shoppers prioritizing low operating costs, efficient coverage, and hair-tangle resistance over top-tier cleaning performance. See additional info

Eureka E20 Evo Plus Overview

For a robot vacuum in its price range, the E20 Evo Plus sure offers an extensive set of features. This model is the follow-up to the Eureka E20 Plus, with 2,000 Pa more manufacturer-rated suction. And the biggest headlining feature is its bagless auto-empty dock, which eliminates the recurring cost of disposable dust bags.

It also has LDS LiDAR navigation, a lifting mop pad, anti-tangle features, and a fairly complete app. Additional features include:

  • Multi-level mapping
  • No-go and no-mop zones
  • Cleaning schedules
  • Carpet boost
  • App-based cleaning controls

Bagless Auto-Empty Dock

Most self-emptying robot vacuums collect debris in disposable bags inside the dock. Eureka E20 Evo Plus uses a reusable dustbin and filtration system instead.

Eureka says the system can save users $70 or more per year in replacement bag costs, depending on usage. The dock can also hold up to 45 days of debris before it needs to be emptied. That’s appealing if you have a home with pets or other situations where the robot would otherwise fill its dustbin quickly.

Bagless auto-empty systems are still relatively uncommon, too. So it’s one of the E20 Evo Plus’s strongest selling points.

Navigation Efficiency

Navigation was a strong pro of the E20 Evo Plus. It uses a top-mounted LDS LiDAR sensor to map the home and plan its cleaning routes.

It covered 0.91 square meters per minute compared with the current robot vacuum average of 0.71 square meters per minute in our navigation evaluation. The E20 Evo Plus had efficient, relatively direct cleaning routes with less unnecessary wandering.

It also completed our studio cleaning course in 37 minutes compared with an average of 56 minutes among the robots in our database.

Efficient navigation can be just as important as raw battery capacity for larger homes because the robot spends less time retracing its steps.

Battery Efficiency

Battery performance is another advantage. The E20 Evo Plus covered 1.16 square meters for every 1% of battery used compared to the current average of 1.10 square meters. Based on those results, we estimated approximately 1,807 square feet of coverage per charge compared with an average of about 1,170 square feet.

Combined with its efficient navigation, this makes the E20 Evo Plus well suited to covering larger floor plans without frequently returning to the dock to recharge.

How Vacuum Wars Tests Robot Vacuums: Step into the world of Vacuum Wars, where real-world tests, straight-forward reviews, and no sponsored products redefine robot vacuum evaluations.

Vacuuming and Hair Tangle Resistance

For normal surface debris, the Eureka did a good job vacuuming both hard floors and carpets. But the more impressive result was its resistance to hair tangles.

The main brush uses a V-shaped bristle pattern along with teeth in the brush housing designed to reduce hair wrapping. The side brush also uses Eureka’s curved DragonClaw design to help move hair away before it tangles.

Just 3% of the hair wrapped around the main brush in our 7-inch hair tangle evaluation, and the current robot vacuum average is 26%. That makes the E20 Evo Plus a good bet for homes where long hair wrapping around the brush is a frequent maintenance problem.

Carpet Deep Cleaning

Eureka’s E20 Evo Plus was less remarkable when we moved from surface pickup to embedded debris. It scored 79% in our carpet deep clean evaluation, which measures how effectively the robot removes sand embedded in medium-pile carpet. Our current average for robot vacuums is 78%. So the result was acceptable, but not exceptional.

We prefer higher scores, but this is sufficient for everyday cleaning needs.

Mobile App

Eureka has improved their app considerably over the years, and the E20 Evo Plus includes most of the controls we expect from a modern robot vacuum. It has multi-level mapping, scheduling, no-go zones, no-mop zones, carpet boost, and adjustable mop water levels. So you can customize how the robot cleans different rooms and flooring types without requiring much day-to-day interaction.

Mopping Hardware

This model uses a traditional flat mop pad and is supplied with an electronically controlled water tank. However, you must fill the tank manually and wash the mop pad by hand. So this isn’t a fully automated mopping system like those found on more expensive robot vacuums with mop-washing docks.

The mop pad can also lift 10 mm when the robot encounters carpet. That allows the E20 Evo Plus to vacuum carpets and mop hard floors in the same cleaning run, without requiring you to manually remove the mop pad first. It’s a useful convenience for an entry-level robot vacuum and mop.

Cons of the Eureka E20 Evo Plus

Despite several useful features, the E20 Evo Plus comes with some drawbacks. Most of them come down to cleaning performance and the limits of its hardware.

Mixed Mopping Performance

The Eureka E20 Evo Plus performed extremely well in both our standard and coffee stain evaluations. But it achieved those results while leaving considerably more water on the floor than we prefer. Our water penalty measurement was 3.95 grams compared with a robot vacuum average of just 1.07 grams.

Using more water can help loosen dried stains, but excessive moisture can leave floors wet and increase the likelihood of streaking. The good news is that E20 Evo Plus’s adjustable water settings actually make a meaningful difference. We measured about 2.9 grams at the lowest setting compared with 5 grams at the highest. So depending on your home, it may be best to use the lower water setting.

Suction and Airflow

Eureka lists an official suction claim of 10,000 Pa, but the model’s performance in our bench evaluations was relatively low. It measured 0.3 kPa in our suction assessment compared with the current average of 0.99 kPa. Airflow measured 8 CFM compared with an average of 17 CFM.

These results are a good example of why advertised Pascal ratings don’t always represent how well a robot vacuum will perform in real-world cleaning situations.

Crevice Pickup

This robot vacuum scored below average in our crevice pickup evaluation, with a score of 1.5 compared with our current robot vacuum average of 2. That may be worth considering if your home has deep grout lines, wide floorboard joints, or other recessed areas where debris can settle below the surface.

Pet Hair Pickup

The E20 Evo Plus’s ability to remove pet hair from carpet was less impressive, despite it doing very well at preventing hair from tangling around the brush roll.

We pressed 2.5-inch hair into the carpet to simulate hair that has become embedded rather than simply resting on the surface to evaluate its performance. The E20 Evo Plus removed 73% of the hair compared with the current robot vacuum average of 82%.

Obstacle Avoidance

Eureka’s E20 Evo Plus has strong navigation, but no dedicated obstacle avoidance. And navigation and obstacle avoidance are not the same thing.

Its LiDAR system allows it to recognize walls, furniture, and the general layout of a room. But it can’t detect small objects such as cords, shoes, toys, or other clutter due to the missing dedicated obstacle avoidance system. That means you may still want to do a quick floor pickup before starting a cleaning run.

For relatively tidy homes, this won’t be a major issue. But households with children, pets, or frequently cluttered floors may prefer a robot vacuum with more advanced object recognition.

Owner Feedback

By now, the E20 Evo Plus has been available long enough to accumulate a meaningful number of customer reviews. The overall feedback is positive (4 out of 5 stars as of this review). However, some negative feedback notes longevity concerns and occasional navigation glitches.

Eureka E20 Evo Plus Review: Conclusion and Recommendation

The E20 Evo Plus has several things going for it. Its bagless auto-empty dock eliminates replacement bag costs, its LiDAR navigation is fast and efficient, and battery coverage is excellent. The anti-tangle system also did an unusually good job keeping long hair off the brush.

Its app is well-equipped, and the lifting mop pad allows it to vacuum carpets and mop hard floors in a single run. But as a floor cleaner, the E20 Evo Plus has some potential drawbacks. Suction and airflow measurements were low, pet hair pickup was below average, crevice cleaning could be better, and its mop uses considerably more water than we prefer.

For those reasons, the Eureka E20 Evo Plus did not make our list of favorite robot vacuums in this price range. Even so, the bagless dock and efficient navigation make it a great choice if you want low recurring costs and large-area coverage.
