The Shark PowerDetect Clean & Empty IP3251 takes the top spot in this ranking with a strong combination of pet-focused features and everyday convenience. It is the only model in the group with a bagless automatic bin-emptying dock, which is especially useful for homes with shedding pets because pet hair can fill a cordless vacuum’s dustbin quickly.

Its newer DuoClean floorhead combines a soft front roller with a standard rear brushroll, giving it strong pickup across both hard floors and carpets without requiring users to switch cleaner heads. It also includes active hair removal, sealed HEPA filtration, floorhead lighting, and a pivoting wand. Altogether, the PowerDetect Clean & Empty offers one of the most complete and practical feature sets in this pet-hair ranking.

The Shark Vertex Pro IZ682H earns the #2 position with a particularly strong combination of pet-hair pickup, hair-tangle resistance, and versatility across mixed flooring. Its DuoClean floorhead pairs a soft front roller with a traditional rear brushroll, helping it collect pet hair efficiently from hard floors while still providing the agitation needed for rugs and carpets.

It is also one of the more complete Shark cordless options in this ranking, with active hair removal, sealed HEPA filtration, floorhead lighting, a pivoting wand, and a detachable battery. An additional battery option can extend cleaning time, which may be useful in larger homes or homes with multiple shedding pets. Together, those features make the Vertex Pro a strong alternative for shoppers who want much of Shark’s premium pet-focused performance.

The Shark Vertex IZ462H earns its place in this pet-hair ranking with a combination of Shark’s DuoClean floorhead and anti-hair-wrap technology. Its dual-roller design uses a soft roller in front and a more traditional roller in back, giving it strong pickup on both hard floors and carpets without requiring a cleaner-head change. In our hair-tangle evaluations, it handled both 7-inch and 14-inch hair without wrapping, which is a major advantage for homes with shedding pets.

This Vertex was the first Shark cordless vacuum to combine the brand’s anti-tangle technology with its dual-roller design, and years of positive owner feedback suggest that the combination has held up well over time. It also includes Shark’s Anti-Allergen Complete Seal system with HEPA filtration, a removable battery, and a MultiFLEX wand that makes it easier to reach hair and dander under furniture.

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine is the most feature-rich cordless in this ranking. It uses the same core platform as the V16 Piston Animal but adds the Submarine wet-cleaning head for washing hard floors, giving it an additional cleaning function beyond ordinary cordless vacuuming.

Its pet-hair strengths include a dedicated soft roller with green illumination for revealing fine dust and hair on hard floors, along with the conical All Floor cleaner head, which is designed to resist hair tangles and work across mixed flooring. It also performed well in the areas of filtration, bin utility, and in-bin hair management, making it one of the most complete premium options here for homes with pets.

Shoppers who want strong pet-hair performance but do not need the mopping attachment may want to consider the Dyson V16 Piston Animal (see our review) instead.

The Levoit LVAC-200 remains our budget pick because it is the lowest-priced model on our Top 20 Cordless Vacuums ranking that still offers a useful set of pet-friendly features. It does not match the top premium models for pet-hair pickup or hair management, but it costs considerably less while still delivering enough overall performance to remain competitive.

The LVAC-200 includes active hair removal, floorhead lighting, a detachable battery, a lightweight design, and HEPA filtration. It is best suited to lighter pet-hair needs or shoppers looking for the most affordable cordless vacuum for pets that still earned a place in our broader cordless vacuum rankings.

For this ranking, we look specifically at the test results, features, and specifications that matter most for cat and dog owners. A good pet-hair vacuum still needs to be a strong cordless vacuum overall, so we considered our standard cordless vacuum rankings alongside pet-specific factors such as hair-tangle resistance, soft-roller performance, dustbin size, floor lighting, filtration, and pet-hair pickup features.

Hair Tangle Resistance

One of the most important metrics in this ranking is our 14-inch hair-tangle test. We run 14-inch hair through the vacuum and measure how much becomes wrapped around the brushroll. Hair wrap is one of the most common maintenance problems for pet owners, so models with effective anti-tangle systems received additional weight.

In the past, most vacuums ended this test with a heavily tangled brushroll. More recently, manufacturers have introduced floorheads designed to resist hair wrap, and the best models in this ranking performed very well in that area.

Soft Rollers and Pet Hair Pickup

We also give additional weight to cordless vacuums with soft rollers. This may be a dedicated soft roller, such as those used on some Dyson models, or a dual-roller floorhead that combines a soft roller with a more traditional brushroll, such as Shark’s DuoClean systems.

Soft rollers can be especially effective at collecting pet hair from hard floors. Dual-roller systems also allow users to move between hard floors and carpets without changing floorheads, which can be useful in homes with multiple flooring types.

Dustbin Size

Pet hair takes up a considerable amount of space, so a small dustbin can fill quickly in homes with shedding animals. Larger-than-average dustbins received extra credit because they allow users to clean for longer before stopping to empty the vacuum. This can be particularly useful in homes with multiple pets or heavy shedding.

LED Lights and Green Dust Illumination

We give points to vacuums with floorhead lighting, especially angled green lights that reveal fine hair and debris on hard floors. Effective lighting makes it easier to see what still needs to be cleaned and to confirm that an area is clear before moving on.

Filtration and Pet Dander

Filtration is another important part of the ranking because pet hair is often accompanied by pet dander. Vacuums with sealed filtration systems are better able to keep fine particles contained inside the vacuum rather than allowing them to escape back into the room.

Overall Cordless Vacuum Performance

Pet-specific features are only part of the equation. We also considered each model’s normal cordless vacuum performance, including suction, airflow, debris pickup, customer-review scores, and other factors that affect overall usability and cleaning ability.

This helps ensure that the highest-ranked models are not simply good at one pet-hair-related task, but are strong cordless vacuums overall.
