About the Roborock Q7 M5 and M5+ Robot Vacuums

The Q7 M5 is a vacuum and mop combo that can be purchased by itself or in a Plus version. The Plus model includes an auto-empty station with a disposable bag for storing debris, so you don’t have to empty the robot’s dustbin by hand.

Roborock says the Q7 M5 is an upgrade of the successful Q7 Max Plus, which we really liked. The Q7 M5 is available in either black or white.

Roborock Q7 M5 Evaluation and Performance

For our Roborock Q7 M5 and M5+ review, we were very thorough in our assessment of the robot vacuum, evaluating its performance on a range of real-world cleaning challenges. It delivered good results in all key areas.

Price

One of the biggest advantages of the Q7 M5 is the cost. This robot vacuum is sold at a relatively low price, considering its unique set of features. The Q7 M5+ version with the auto-empty dock sells at a similar price to one of its closest rivals, the Eufy C10, which has fewer features.

Price graphic showing relative cost: Roborock Q7 M5+ marked $$$$ and Eufy C10 marked $$$.
Relative pricing at a glance ยฉ Vacuum Wars

Auto Empty Station

Its auto-empty station is another huge positive. When the robot returns to its base, it will automatically empty the contents of its internal dust bin into a 2.7 L disposable bag. This bag can hold up to seven weeks of debris before it needs to be replaced, depending on usage.

Mopping System

It has a mop, which is a pro considering most in this price range do not. But its mopping system is somewhat low-tech, using a single detachable mopping pad, which is a common design element found in early robot vacuum mop combo systems.

Bottom layout at a glance ยฉ Vacuum Wars

This mop can’t lift automatically over carpets, unlike some of the newer and more expensive mop systems. That means you’ll need to run it in vacuum-only mode over carpets first, without the mop pad attached. Then, attach the mop and run it again for hard floors.

This can be bothersome for homes with a lot of hard floor-to-carpet transitions. However, if you have all hard floors in your house, it won’t matter. Because in that case, the Q7 M5 robot vacuum can clean and mop your entire house in a single run.

Also, you’ll need to wash its mop pad yourself, typically after each run. The dock won’t do it for you like higher-end models.

Navigation

The Roborock Q7 M5 features a top-mounted LiDAR sensor for mapping and navigating around the home, which is a notable advantage. We prefer this type of LiDAR system over the others.

Roborock Q7 M5 Front Mounted LiDAR vs Eufy C10 Embedded LiDAR
Top mounted LiDAR helped the Q7 M5 left cover more ground with fewer missed spots ยฉ Vacuum Wars

When we compared the Q7 M5 to the Eufy C10 robot vacuum, the difference in navigation became clear. The C10 relies on an embedded LiDAR system, but in our tests it often struggled to map rooms as precisely as the Q7 M5. The Roborock not only left fewer missed spots, it also covered the floor more efficiently.

In fact, the Q7 M5 cleaned at a rate of 0.83 mยฒ per minute, compared with 0.62 mยฒ/min for the Eufy C10. For context, the overall test average was 0.70 mยฒ/minโ€”showing that the Q7 M5โ€™s navigation is a step above both the C10 and the typical robot vacuum in this category.

Navigation Efficiency chart: Roborock Q7 M5+ at 0.83 mยฒ/min, Eufy C10 at 0.62 mยฒ/min, and test average at 0.70 mยฒ/min.

Battery Life

When it comes to battery life, Roborock advertises up to 3 hours of runtime for the Q7 M5 in its lowest power mode. Thatโ€™s a full hour longer than the Eufy C10 and about 30 minutes more than the average robot vacuum in our tests.

Official Battery Life (Low Power) chart: Roborock Q7 M5+ 180 min, Eufy C10 120 min, test average 148 min.
Battery life claims Roborock rates the Q7 M5 at 3 hours on low poweran hour longer than the Eufy C10 and about 30 minutes above the test average ยฉ Vacuum Wars

However, in our battery life testsโ€”where we run each vacuum on all power settings across a fixed floor planโ€”the Q7 M5+ fell below average in efficiency. It delivered 1.18 minutes of runtime per 1% of battery, compared with 1.35 minutes per % for the Eufy C10 and a test average of 1.33 minutes per %.

Thanks to its above-average navigation efficiency, the Q7 M5+ covered an estimated 1,060 square feet per charge, which is slightly better than the overall test average of 1,015 square feet. For comparison, the Eufy C10 managed 904 square feet per charge, making the Q7 M5+โ€™s result a solid showing for a budget-friendly model.

Vacuuming

Another strength of the Q7 M5 is its ability to sweep up debris of all sizes on both hard floors and carpets. It uses a single fixed side brush and a single roller brush in a floating housing.

It also features carpet boost, which is very useful. With carpet boost, the Q7 M5 automatically increases suction whenever it detects carpet.

Suction Power

Roborock lists the Q7 M5+ with an official suction power of 10,000 pascals, and in our own suction tests, its performance lived up to the claim. It achieved the 12th-highest score on record, which is impressive for a robot vacuum at any price point. For comparison, the Eufy C10 is rated at 4,000 pascals, highlighting just how much power the Q7 M5+ brings to the table.

In our suction tests, the Q7 M5+ measured 2.24 kPa, which is well above both the Eufy C10โ€™s 0.73 kPa and the overall test average of 0.83 kPa. This result places the Q7 M5+ comfortably in the upper tier of robot vacuums when it comes to raw suction performance.

Roborock App

The Roborock app is also a significant pro. It’s easy to set up and use. You can use it to schedule cleanings, set no-go and no-mop zones, and monitor progress and battery life in real time. You can also adjust suction levels, customize room settings, and control the mop’s water flow with three options. But that last bit didn’t work out so great, as you’ll see in a moment.

Cons of the Roborock Q7 M5 and M5+

Before we discuss the cons, let’s address a couple of things that were just kind of average.

For one, it had just average performance in our pet hair pickup evaluation. In this assessment, we flatten 2.5 inches of hair onto the carpet and measure how much the robot removes. The Q7 M5 only removed 79% of the hair, which is right around average and well behind the Eufy C10’s perfect score.

Flattened Pet Hair Pickup on Carpet chart: Roborock Q7 M5+ at 79%, Eufy C10 at 100%, and test average at 81%.

The Q7 M5 was average in our carpet deep clean test, where we embed sand into medium-pile carpet and measure how much the robot can remove. It picked up 75% of the sand, which matches the overall average across all the robot vacuums weโ€™ve evaluated.

Water Usage

In terms of mopping performance, the Q7 M5 excelled in our dried-on stain removal test. It earned a score of 158, far above the test average of 93.

However, it achieved those strong mopping results by using a relatively high amount of water, leaving behind 2 gramsโ€”about twice the evaluation average of 1.01 grams. Notably, this outcome was consistent across all water level settings, with little variation in the results. This excessive water usage may make the Q7 M5 more prone to leaving streaky floors behind.

Hair Tangle

Another con was with regard to our hair tangle evaluation. Roborock swapped out their normal single rubber brush for one with bristles that are combined with their new “jaw scrapers” comb. The comb sits just above the rubber bristles on the main brush. Its rigid teeth are supposed to continually pull hair away from the brush to prevent wrapping.

However, the Q7 M5 performed slightly worse than average in our evaluation, with 43% of the hairs winding around the brush, which is worse than the average score of 38.

This can be a drawback if your household needs a lot of long hair management. But it’s still better than robot vacuums that come without any kind of hair removal system.

Obstacle Avoidance

While this isnโ€™t really a con, note that robot vacuums in this price range typically don’t have obstacle avoidance sensors at the front. This is also true of the Roborock Q7 M5. That means you’ll need to tidy up a little before running the robot. For example, removing cables, socks, toys, or any other small clutter that the robot won’t be able to sense.
