Tikom L8000 Plus Review: Budget Robot Vacuum With LiDAR and Self-Empty Base

Welcome to Vacuum Wars and to our Tikom L8000 Plus robot vacuum review. This best-selling budget robot vacuum caught our attention with a surprising number of features and an extremely low price point, including LiDAR navigation and a self-emptying base station. Those are features that, until recently, were typically reserved for midrange or premium models.

As with all of our reviews, we purchased the Tikom L8000 Plus ourselves and put it through our standardized in-house testing over several weeks. In this article, we’ll cover where this robot vacuum and mop combo performed well, where it struggled, and whether it’s worth considering at its price point.


The Tikom L8000+ delivered solid vacuuming performance for a budget robot, picking up debris of various sizes on both hard floors and carpet with near-average suction and airflow. It performed slightly above average in carpet deep cleaning, removing 79% of embedded sand, and excelled in flattened pet hair pickup, capturing 89.5% compared to the 81% average. Its LiDAR-based navigation was impressively efficient and above average, mapping and routing effectively. However, mopping was a major weakness, earning one of the lowest combined scores recorded in both legacy and coffee stain tests, using very little water and struggling beyond light surface wiping. Hair tangling was also a problem, with over half of 7-inch hairs wrapping around the brush in testing. Battery efficiency was about 40% worse than average, covering an estimated 881 square feet per charge versus the 1,170-square-foot average, though it does support recharge and resume. TL;DR: Is the Tikom L8000 Plus Worth It?

The Tikom L8000 Plus is a very affordable robot vacuum and mop that includes rare features like LiDAR navigation and a self-empty base station. In our testing it delivered solid vacuuming performance and efficient navigation, but its mopping performance, hair tangling, and battery efficiency were significantly below average. It may work as a basic vacuum-only robot, but it is not a strong choice if mopping performance matters to you.

Tikom L8000 Plus Overview: Features, Design, and Price Positioning

The Tikom L8000 Plus is a robot vacuum and mop combo positioned in the very low-budget tier of the robot vacuum market. Tikom is a smaller brand focused on entry-level products and primarily sells through Amazon, where the L8000 Plus has been a strong seller. The model can be purchased as a standalone robot or bundled with an auto-empty base station, which is the version we tested.

It features top-mounted LiDAR-based navigation, app controls via the Tuya platform, customizable cleaning options, and a basic mopping system. Seeing LiDAR mapping and a self-empty base at this price would have been almost unheard of just a few years ago, and it reflects how quickly robot vacuum technology has filtered down into more affordable categories.

Vacuuming Performance Test Results: Suction, Airflow, Carpet, and Pet Hair

The Tikom L8000 Plus uses a standard bristle main roller brush along with a fixed V-shaped side brush. In our real-world debris tests, it was able to pick up various sizes of debris from both hard floors and carpet.

In our bench tests, the Tikom measured 1.08 kPa of suction compared to the 0.97 kPa average across all robot vacuums we’ve tested. Its airflow measured 15 cfm compared to the 16.8 cfm average. While airflow was slightly below average, overall suction and airflow performance were close to average, which is respectable for a robot in this price category.

The robot also features automatic suction boost on carpet. In our carpet deep-clean test, where we embed sand into a medium-pile carpet and measure how much is removed, the Tikom L8000 Plus removed 79% of the sand compared to the 77% average. That places it slightly above average in this category.

In our flattened pet hair test, where we press 2.5-inch hairs into carpet to simulate real-life conditions, the Tikom removed 89.5% of the hair compared to the 81% average. That result was clearly above average and one of the stronger aspects of its vacuuming performance.

Navigation and Mapping Performance: LiDAR Efficiency and Limitations

Navigation efficiency was another area where the Tikom L8000 Plus performed well for its class. It uses a top-mounted spinning LiDAR sensor to map the home and plan cleaning paths.

In our navigation efficiency testing, the Tikom achieved 0.89 meters per minute compared to the 0.72 meters per minute average. That is a noticeably above-average result and indicates relatively efficient pathing and coverage for a budget robot vacuum.

It’s important to note, however, that the Tikom L8000 Plus does not have obstacle avoidance. We would not necessarily expect advanced obstacle avoidance at this price point, but the marketing materials can be somewhat unclear. There are no front-facing cameras or structured light sensors, so users should expect it to bump into objects and potentially get stuck on small obstacles.

Self-Empty Base Station: 3L Capacity and Hands-Free Maintenance

One of the most compelling features of the Tikom L8000 Plus is its self-emptying base station. Auto-empty functionality is typically associated with higher-priced models.

The base includes a 3 L dustbin and uses sealed disposable bags. According to Tikom, the bag can hold up to 90 days of debris before needing replacement, depending on usage and home conditions. For buyers looking for a low-maintenance experience at a budget price, this is a significant advantage.

App Features and Setup Experience: Tuya Integration and Smart Controls

The Tikom L8000 Plus uses the Tuya app rather than a proprietary app developed in-house. This allows Tikom to offer advanced features without building its own software ecosystem.

The app includes room customization, no-go zones, scheduling, real-time cleaning progress, and integration with Amazon Alexa and Google Voice Assistant. Reviews of the Tuya app on both iOS and Android are generally favorable.

One notable difference in setup is that, unlike many robot vacuums that temporarily create their own Wi-Fi network during pairing, the Tikom uses Bluetooth through your phone to connect directly to your home’s Wi-Fi network. A small number of Reddit users have reported that the vacuum appeared discoverable over Bluetooth after setup, leading to unusual behaviors such as audio playback through the robot’s speaker from nearby devices. This appears to be rare and can likely be avoided with proper configuration, but it is worth noting.

Mopping Performance Test Results: Stain Removal, Water Usage, and Overall Score

The biggest drawback of the Tikom L8000 Plus is its mopping performance. It uses a fixed flat mop pad with three water flow settings. The mop pad does not lift over carpets, and the robot does not automatically avoid carpeted areas while mopping. Users will need to set up no-mop zones in the app during initial configuration.

In our legacy dried-on stain test, the Tikom received a score of 4, which is the worst score we have on record. In our newer coffee stain test, it scored a 2 compared to an average dried-on stain score of 112 across all robots tested.

Because these results were so surprising, we repeated the tests to confirm the outcome, and the results were consistent.

We also evaluate water usage during mopping. The Tikom used just 0.2 g of water in our test compared to the 1.04 g average. While lower water usage can reduce streaking, it may also limit cleaning effectiveness. Even accounting for this, its overall performance remained extremely poor.

Its combined mopping score was 10.2 compared to the 22.75 average, placing it in the bottom 10 of all robot vacuums we have tested. In practical terms, this robot may be able to remove light dust or surface debris, but it is not suitable for tackling dried-on stains or heavier messes.

Hair Tangle Test Results: 7-Inch Hair Performance

In our 7-inch hair tangle test, which evaluates how much long hair wraps around the main brush, the Tikom L8000 Plus showed another weakness. It does not advertise any anti-tangle technology, and this was reflected in the results.

A total of 56% of the hair tangled around the brush compared to the 21% average. That is a significantly higher tangle rate and suggests that users with long hair or pets may need to perform frequent manual brush maintenance.

Battery Life and Coverage Test Results: Efficiency and Square Footage Per Charge

Tikom lists the official battery life at 150 minutes compared to the 162-minute average across our database. While slightly below average on paper, real-world battery efficiency was more concerning.

In our testing, the Tikom measured 0.92 minutes per 1% of battery compared to the 1.56 minutes per 1% average. That represents roughly 40% worse efficiency than average.

Based on these results, we estimate that the Tikom L8000 Plus can cover about 881 square feet per charge compared to the 1,170 square feet average. It does support recharge-and-resume, meaning it will return to the dock to recharge and then continue cleaning. However, users with larger homes may notice longer total cleaning times due to its lower battery efficiency.

Final Verdict: Who Should Consider the Tikom L8000 Plus?

The Tikom L8000 Plus did not earn a spot as one of our top picks, even within the budget tier. However, its low price and inclusion of LiDAR navigation and a self-empty base station make it an interesting option for certain users.

If you are looking for a basic robot vacuum with decent vacuuming performance and efficient navigation, and you are not concerned about mopping performance or hair tangling, the Tikom L8000 Plus may be worth considering.

However, if mopping performance, long-hair management, or strong battery efficiency are priorities, there are better-performing alternatives available.
