Dreame X50 Ultra robot vacuum

The X50 Ultra was first announced at CES 2025. Itโ€™s a robot vacuum mop combo with all the features youโ€™d expect today, including the latest navigation, obstacle avoidance, and an auto-empty dock with automatic mop washing. The X50 is being sold at the higher end for robot vacuums but on par with other flagships in its class.

Pros of the Dreame X50 Ultraย

Vacuuming

Letโ€™s start with its vacuuming ability. The big change with the X50 Ultra from previous versions is its new DuoBrush System. This one-piece dual roller module is tapered on one end, allowing hair to be channeled to that side to prevent tangles.ย

Our evaluations found that the new brush design is a major upgrade from previous versions and one of the best systems weโ€™ve seen so far.

Debris pickup

In our pickup evaluation, it was as good or better than any robot vacuum weโ€™ve assessed. It nearly perfectly swept up all types and sizes of debris on both hard floors and carpets.

Vacuuming pet hair

The Dreame X50 Ultra performed notably better than average in our 2.5โ€ณ pet hair pickup evaluation on carpet. It had the best score yet for a combo robot vacuum with lifting pads, including among previous Dreame flagships. We attribute these amazing results to the new brush design.

Test chart showing Dreame X50 Ultra scored 98% in flattened pet hair pickup on carpet, outperforming X40 Ultra (76%) and average (78%).
A near-perfect result for the X50 Ultra. ยฉ Vacuum Wars

It also had a perfect score in the 7โ€ณ hair evaluation, with 0% of the hair tangled, which is a somewhat rare feat.

Threshold-crossing capability

The X50 Ultra has a very innovative threshold-crossing capability. While robot vacuums capable of surmounting thresholds over 20โ€ฏmm are just emerging, this feature is quickly becoming standard, and the X50 Ultra is leading the way.

Just specify the threshold in the app, and it will use its retractable legs to raise the front of the robot. It was able to cross our 20โ€ฏmm and 25โ€ฏmm boards with no issues. And it was the first weโ€™ve evaluated that could cross the 36โ€ฏmm board.ย

A smooth climb over raised edges.

Dreame says it can cross 1.67โ€ณ or about 42โ€ฏmm vertically and higher if itโ€™s a two-tiered threshold. In contrast, competitors like the Roborock Saros are limited to 1.18 inches vertically or about 30โ€ฏmm.

Retractable LiDAR

Another new innovation is its retractable LiDAR sensor, which gives you all the benefits of a top-mounted LiDAR (a superior way of mapping and navigation). However, the X50โ€™s LiDAR module also retracts down to 89โ€ฏmm when it encounters furniture it could otherwise get under. This could be a game changer for some households.

Mopping features

There were also a lot of pros with its mopping features. The X50 Ultra uses a standard two-spinning mop pad design with electronically controlled water dispensing to mop floors. It also has an automatically extending mop pad that dramatically helps with edge coverage when enabled.

The X50 Ultra navigates tight spaces with ease. ยฉ Vacuum Wars

Additionally, the robot vacuum will lift its mop pads slightly over 10โ€ฏmm whenever it senses carpets to avoid getting them wet. This lets you clean carpets and hard floors on the same run, making it a must-have if you have mixed floors.

Alternatively, you can set it to leave behind its mop pads at the base using a magnetic system to ensure carpets remain dry. We really love the options that Dreame provides in this regard.

Mopping performance

We did various dried-on stain mopping evaluations and assessments that measured how much water the robot vacuum used to understand its overall mopping ability. In the mop stain evaluation, it scored 80, which is in line with other Dreame flagship models.

Test results comparing Dreame X50 Ultra (score 80) and X40 Ultra (score 72) against an average of 94 in the dried-on mopping test.

Its mop water score was also above average, and it had a good range of water flow options while not being overly prone to streaks on its max water flow.ย

Test results showing Dreame X50 Ultra scored 65 in mop water test, higher than the average score of 52.

Mop maintenance

The real strength of the Dreame X50 Ultraโ€™s mopping system is all in the charging dock. Besides providing a spot for the robot vacuum to empty its dustbin into the included bag, it also washes the mop pads with hot water, dries them with hot air, and refills the onboard water tank.ย

Some upgrades from previous versions include the water being hotter than previous models and a newly designed self-cleaning system (the big one). Dreame calls this new self-cleaning system the AceCleanโ„ข DryBoard, which replaces the squeegee-based system they pioneered. It uses a sprayer system and a new filtration system, which prevents clogging during self-cleaning.

Obstacle avoidance and navigation

The obstacle avoidance system uses a camera and AI software trained on 200 objects, as well as 3D structured light, to recognize and avoid household objects. In our obstacle avoidance evaluations for this Dreame X50 Ultra review, the robot vacuum performed significantly above average. It scored 20 out of a possible 24 points.

Solid obstacle smartsโ€”just shy of the best. ยฉ Vacuum Wars

So, itโ€™s not much different from previous Dreames, which have historically been pretty good at obstacle avoidance compared to competitors like Roborock.

Its mapping and navigation were other positives in general. The top-mounted LiDAR system mapped our floorplan in about 5 minutes, and in various evaluations, we found the X50 Ultraโ€™s coverage was practically perfect. It was also above average in efficiency at about 0.74 mยฒ per minute.

The X50 Ultra has an edge in smart navigation. ยฉ Vacuum Wars

Battery life

Its battery life was good, though not as good as previous Dreames. For example, in our evaluations, the average battery efficiency and estimated square footage per charge were above average, but previous Dreames had slightly better scores.

Battery efficiency comparison chart showing the Dreame X50 Ultra at 1.41 minutes per percentage versus the average of 1.33.

The X50 has the same 6400 mAh battery as the other Dreame flagships, such as the X40 Ultra. So, weโ€™re unsure if some of the new features were slightly more taxing on the battery or if it was operator error on our part. Either way, the battery life was still above average.

Software features

This is the first Dreame with a voice assistant built in. Matter support has also been added to this version, as well as lots of new software options like smartwatch support and phone widgets.

App controls

In our opinion, the app is one of the best on the market. Itโ€™s packed with every feature you could want and granular control over things like bin-empty behaviors, obstacle avoidance, and mop settings.ย

It also has virtual barriers, advanced scheduling, and many pet-related features that leverage its camera. For example, you can ask it to quietly look for your pets and check on them. The app store score for the app is really good, too.

Cons of the Dreame X50 Ultra

We canโ€™t close this Dreame X50 Ultra review without discussing potential drawbacks. However, there were no actual negative things about the X50โ€”just some average ones.ย

For example, our bench evaluations found that its suction and airflow were just about average. It was slightly above average for airflow and a bit below average for suction.

The X50 Ultra also had a lackluster showing with the crevice pickup evaluation on max power. Itโ€™s possible that the new dual brush design creates a larger opening at the housing where most of those evaluations targeted, causing the results to be a bit diluted.ย

None of this seemed to affect its actual pickup performance on hard floors and carpets or deep cleaning, but itโ€™s worth noting. Also, the price may be a con for some homeowners, even though itโ€™s a competitively priced robot vacuum in line with other flagships with similar specs and features.

Dreame X50 Ultra review: conclusion and recommendation

When we add up all the points, the Dreame X50 Ultra now ranks number 3 on our top 20 robot vacuum list (at the time of this article). However, that rank could go up or down any day, depending on Amazon star rating changes or price shifts. For example, if the price of the X50 drops just a little, it will move to number 1.ย The bottom line is that the Dreame X50 Ultra is easily one of the best robot vacuums weโ€™ve ever evaluated. It really is a strong contender for the best robot vacuum of the year. Overall, itโ€™s a fantastic option for pet owners, busy families, or anyone who wants a hands-off cleaning experience without sacrificing performance.
