The OmniVerse was one of the products Eureka introduced earlier this year at CES 2024. We bought one recently and have been evaluating it in various ways over the past couple of weeks. Here’s a detailed breakdown of our experience, starting with the Pros
Exceptional Pickup Performance
One of the standout features of the Eureka QuickShift OmniVerse is its ability to vacuum both hard floors and carpets effortlessly. A button on the handle adjusts the brush speed, depending on the floor type, improving cleaning efficiency. During our pickup tests, the OmniVerse scored a perfect 32, which is significantly above the average.
This remarkable performance is due in part to its large front gates, which make picking up larger debris on both hard floors and carpets a breeze. It handled all sizes of debris we threw at it, from fine dust to larger crumbs. It also excelled in both studio and real-world tests on pet and human hair. Thanks to its anti-tangle roller, shorter hair was managed without any issues, though longer strands of 14-inch hair did present a minor tangle, but even that was minimal.
Lighter Weight for Easy Maneuverability
Weighing in at just over 14 pounds, the Eureka OmniVerse vacuum cleaner is notably lighter than most upright vacuums, making it easier to handle and maneuver around the house. The vacuum’s responsive swivel steering allows it to glide smoothly in and out of tight spaces, providing excellent control even in difficult-to-reach areas. The lighter weight and thoughtful design mean less strain on the user, while still maintaining robust cleaning power.
Ease of Use
We found the Eureka QuickShift OmniVerse incredibly easy to maneuver. Its responsive swivel design lets you navigate tight spaces effortlessly. Another useful feature is the QuickShift technology, where with a simple press of a button, you can lift the canister to create space for cleaning under furniture without hitting the canister—a feature we found unexpectedly convenient. This meant no more moving furniture around or leaving dust under low-clearance items.
Additionally, you can lift the entire canister off for above-floor cleaning tasks. The vacuum includes a set of well-designed attachments, such as a crevice tool, an upholstery brush, and a motorized anti-tangle power brush. While the hose doesn’t work with the power brush, the direct connection for the brush offers superior performance, especially on upholstery and stairs. The attachments add versatility to the vacuum, making it adaptable for all types of cleaning.
Filtration and Suction
The OmniVerse boasts a sealed HEPA filtration system, a rare find in this price range. In our tests, it successfully filtered out 99.9% of dust and dander, making it ideal for allergy sufferers. While its sealed suction and airflow performance were slightly below the average, this didn’t noticeably affect its overall cleaning efficiency. It even surprised us with an above-average unsealed suction score, despite the larger gates on the vacuum head.
Noise and Other Features
At just 77 dB, the OmniVerse is quieter than most other vacuums we’ve tested. It also comes equipped with LED lights on the floorhead, helping you spot debris in darker areas. The 30-foot cord length is standard for vacuums of this kind.
Price
One of the biggest pros is the price. The Eureka QuickShift OmniVerse is significantly more affordable than many of its competitors, making it a great value option. It delivers top-level performance without the premium price tag.
Smaller Dust Bin
Moving on to the cons, one of the few drawbacks we encountered is the dust bin size. At about one liter below the average, the bin requires more frequent emptying compared to other uprights. However, it still performed well in our clog tests and shouldn’t be a dealbreaker for most users.
Lower Raw Suction Power
While the sealed suction and airflow scores were a bit below the average, it wasn’t a major issue in practice. However, it does mean the vacuum may not have as much raw power as some of the higher-end models, which is the trade-off for its lighter design.
No Wand for Debris Pickup
Unlike many vacuums that come with a wand for picking up larger debris, you’ll need to remove the canister and attach one of the onboard tools to clean up items that the floorhead can’t manage. While this was a minor inconvenience, it wasn’t a significant issue since the floorhead was able to pick up most types of debris during our tests.
Vacuum Wars’ Best of the Best
Conclusion
Overall, the Eureka QuickShift OmniVerse exceeded our expectations. It’s lightweight, easy to use, and offers great value for the price. Its QuickShift technology, impressive filtration, and versatile attachments make it a strong contender for anyone in need of a reliable upright vacuum. While it does have a smaller dust bin and slightly lower suction power compared to premium models, its overall performance, especially at its price point, is hard to beat. We’re happy to recommend it as the best value pick in our current lineup.
