First Look at the New Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo

Ecovacs has officially launched the Deebot X2 Combo, packaging a traditional robot vacuum with a handheld vacuum and automated station into one compact unit to offer a streamlined cleaning appliance. Central to this innovative system is the Omni base station, which serves as a hub for a range of intelligent services that are crucial for the maintenance and sanitation of both cleaning devices, ensuring they operate efficiently.

The Deebot X2 Combo was initially unveiled earlier this year at CES 2024 and has enjoyed anticipation from the industry since that time. In this article, we’ll take a first look at the Deebot X2 Combo, examining its features and what it aims to offer. We’ll explore how this vacuum aims to enhance home cleaning with its combined robot and handheld units, alongside its automated station.

The Deebot X2 Lineup Explained

The Deebot X2 Combo offering is an extension of the Deebot X2, which was released in 2023 and was a top finalist in our 2023 Best Robot Vacuum Competition video. At this point in time, the X2 lineup is composed of the following three product offerings:

  • Deebot X2: Robot Vacuum and Mop, Omni Station
  • Deebot X2 Combo: Robot Vacuum and Mop, Handheld Vacuum, Omni-All-in-One Station.
  • Deebot X2 Combo Complete: Robot Vacuum and Mop, Handheld Vacuum, Extension Wand and Motorized Floor Brush, Omni-All-in-One Station. This model will soon be available exclusively from Best Buy.

For the purposes of this article, we are focusing on the Deebot X2 Combo.

The All-in-One OMNI Station: Integrating Essential Functions

The Deebot X2 Combo features the All-in-One OMNI Station, maintaining key functions that were introduced with the original Deebot X2 for robot vacuum maintenance. These functions include:

  • Auto-cleaning the robot vacuum’s mop pads with hot water,
  • 2-hour hot air drying for mop pads,
  • Refilling the robot vacuum’s onboard water tank.

New Dual Auto Empty

The new OMNI Station for the Deebot X2 Combo introduces the Dual Auto-empty feature, accommodating auto-emptying for both the robot vacuum and the handheld vacuum. This addition simplifies maintenance by combining the care for both devices into one automated process.

New Dual Recharging

Moreover, the station recharges both the robot vacuum and the handheld vacuum unit between uses. This integrated approach to maintenance and recharging helps streamline cleaning routines, reducing the need for multiple charging docks and systems, and saving space in the home.

Deebot X2 Combo’s Robot Vacuum

As we stated above, the Deebot X2 robot vacuum has been available as its own product for some time now. If you have been researching premium robot vacuums recently, details about the robot vacuum may not be new to you, so feel free to skip ahead to the details about the handheld vacuum. For those of you who are just beginning to learn about the Deebot X2 Combo’s robot vacuum, let’s begin by looking at its many features.

The Shape of Things: a Square

The Deebot X2 Combo robot vacuum is square shaped, with its spinning side brush positioned at a front corner. This construction is intended to help it reach and collect debris from corners. Additionally, the robot is 95mm tall, notably shorter than the Ecovacs T20 model at 103.5mm, so it can fit more easily under furniture and cabinetry overhangs.

X2 Combo Power

The wind tunnel feature inside the X2 Combo robot vacuum provides suction power of up to 8700Pa. In addition to powerful debris pickup on hard floors, this power level is suitable for carpet cleaning and crevices.

X2 Combo Battery Life

The X2 Combo robot has a 6400mAh battery that helps the robot run for up to 200 minutes on one charge. For many homes, this is sufficient for a full cleaning session.

OZMO Turbo 2.0 Mopping

The Deebot X2 Combo integrates Ecovacs’ advanced OZMO Turbo 2.0 Rotating Mopping System. This system employs dual spinning mop heads that exert consistent pressure on surfaces, ensuring thorough cleaning. While it is mopping, when the robot encounters carpets or already cleaned areas, it will deploy its intelligent “LiftUp” technology, where it will lift its mop heads 15mm and intelligently adjust its suction power, seamlessly transitioning the device from mopping to vacuuming mode. This adaptation not only optimizes cleaning efficiency but also supports a comprehensive cleaning experience across various floor surfaces, carpeting or area rugs.

The X2 Combo Supports Mop Washing

The Deebot X2 Combo includes a mop-washing feature that leverages the onboard water reservoir. The system uses water that has been heated to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, which plays a critical role in breaking down more challenging residues without damaging the mop pads.

Harnessing AI for Enhanced Performance

The Deebot X2 Combo uses the Artificial Intelligence Navigation (AINA) model for obstacle recognition and navigation. This model analyzes the environment, identifying barriers and plotting efficient routes around them based on their characteristics and location.

The Deebot X2 Combo is also equipped with the Artificial Intelligence and Visual Interpretation (AIVI) 3D 2.0 platform, enhancing its ability to discern and navigate around common household objects. This technology allows the vacuum to detect and avoid items such as cables, shoes, and loose textiles, utilizing an optical lens system to catalog obstacles by size and shape. As the vacuum’s database expands, its navigational intelligence grows, minimizing the risk of entanglement or blockage.

Complementing these features, the Deebot X2 Combo’s dual-laser LiDAR navigation system provides spatial awareness, capable of detecting objects up to ten meters away. This system, with a 210-degree field of vision, enables the vacuum to anticipate and circumnavigate potential obstacles, including pets and scattered items, ensuring a thorough yet cautious cleaning path.

Empowering Users with Control

A standout aspect of the Deebot X2 Combo is the degree of control it offers users, balancing AI sophistication with intuitive, user-friendly interfaces. Through the Ecovacs vacuum control app, users can tailor the vacuum’s cleaning paths, setting specific areas for targeted cleaning based on personal preferences or needs. This customizable approach ensures the vacuum operates optimally across various environments.

Additionally, the Deebot X2 Combo incorporates the YIKO Voice Assistant, further enhancing user interaction. This feature allows for multiple voice commands to initiate cleaning, manage the device, and navigate the unit, providing a seamless and accessible user experience.

Together, these AI-driven and user-centric features underscore the Ecovacs X2 Combo robot vacuum’s advanced design, merging cutting-edge technology with practical, customizable controls to deliver a superior cleaning solution.

Extending Reach with the Hand Vacuum

In addition to the primary robot vacuum, the Deebot X2 Combo includes a hand vacuum designed for cleaning areas beyond the robot’s reach, such as upholstery and crevices. This handheld unit showcases an advanced four-stage filtration system, including a potent HEPA filter capable of trapping 99.97% of fine dust particles as small as 0.3 microns. Its innovative six cone cyclone structure enhances air and dust separation, significantly reducing the likelihood of clogging and maintaining consistent suction power over time.

Concluding Thoughts on the X2 Combo

At first glance, the Ecovacs Deebot X2 Combo represents a significant advancement in home cleaning technology, combining the convenience of a robot vacuum with the versatility of a handheld vacuum, all managed through an intelligent base station. Its emphasis on AI-driven performance, user control, and smart home compatibility positions it as a compelling choice for those seeking an integrated cleaning solution.
