Dyson Launches Spot+Scrub Ai Robot Vacuum With Docking Station and AI Stain Detection

Dyson has officially entered the 2-in-1 robotic market with the launch of the Spot+Scrub Ai, its first model designed to combine high-power vacuuming with active floor washing. In a significant departure from its previous design, the new flagship adopts a 360-degree LiDAR navigation system and a multifunctional docking station capable of hot-water roller washing and bagless cyclonic self-emptying. The Spot+Scrub Ai also leverages an HD camera and green-LED optics to detect and repeatedly scrub stubborn stains—marking Dyson’s most aggressive move yet to capture the premium all-in-one floorcare segment.

The Dyson Spot+Scrub Ai is a premium robot vacuum-mop combo that introduces several firsts for Dyson, including a bagless auto-empty dock, AI obstacle avoidance, and a roller mop system, and overall it performs well with some tradeoffs. Its standout feature is the cyclonic bagless dock, which effectively separated heavy pet hair after nearly two weeks without cleaning and stayed completely dry, while the AI system avoided 20 of 24 objects versus a 15 average, making it top-tier for a first attempt. The roller mop scored 101 on coffee stain removal (above the 94 average) with a combined mopping score of 20.1, though it left 1.3g of water (slightly above average). Battery efficiency improved significantly to 1.38 minutes per percent, covering about 846 sq ft per charge, still below the 1,170 average. Vacuuming was solid but slightly weaker than its predecessor, with 76% carpet deep clean pickup (vs. 78 average) and 81% pet hair pickup (vs. 82 average), though crevice performance was excellent at 3.5 vs. 2.0. Downsides include slow navigation (0.57 vs. 0.71 average), poor anti-tangle (31% hair wrap), limited 20mm obstacle climbing, a basic app, and a large 4.3-inch height that can hinder maneuverability. AI-Powered Stain Detection

One of the headline features of the Spot+Scrub Ai is its AI stain detection system, which uses a high-resolution camera and green illumination to identify dirt and spills on hard floors. When the robot detects a stain, it can perform multiple focused cleaning passes over the area until the stain is removed.

Dyson says the system can recognize nearly 100 different types of objects and substances, allowing the robot to differentiate between obstacles and areas that require additional cleaning attention.

Users can also initiate targeted cleaning through the MyDyson app, where they can select specific areas of the home for spot cleaning.

Self-Cleaning Wet Roller and Heated Mop Water

For mopping, the Spot+Scrub Ai uses a self-cleaning microfiber wet roller designed to continuously wash floors while vacuuming debris. The roller is rinsed with heated water as it rotates, ensuring clean fibers remain in contact with the floor surface throughout the cleaning process.

The system uses a 12-point hydration setup to deliver fresh heated water to the roller during operation. After cleaning sessions, the dock washes the roller with antibacterial solution and heated water before drying it with warm air to help prevent odors.

The roller also features an extending mechanism that can reach about 1.6 inches toward edges, helping the robot clean along baseboards and walls where debris often accumulates.

LiDAR Navigation and Object Recognition

The Spot+Scrub Ai uses LiDAR room scanning combined with AI vision to map the home and navigate around obstacles. The system can identify common household objects such as cables, socks, and pet messes, allowing the robot to avoid them while cleaning. It also adapts its cleaning strategy when it recognizes types of messes.

After each cleaning session, the robot generates a “Clean Map” in the MyDyson app, showing where cleaning occurred and where objects were detected.

The mapping system also automatically labels rooms to make it easier for users to set up zone cleaning and customize cleaning schedules.

Bagless Auto-Empty Dock and Cyclonic Filtration

The Spot+Scrub Ai includes a bagless cyclonic docking station that automatically empties collected debris from the robot’s dustbin. Dyson says the dock uses 10 of its proprietary Root Cyclones to separate dust and debris and can store up to 100 days of debris depending on usage.

Unlike most robot vacuum docks that rely on disposable bags, Dyson’s system uses a bagless design intended to reduce consumables and maintain suction performance.
