How to Buy an Ecovacs Robot Vacuum: The 2025 Buyer’s Guide

Ecovacs has built a solid reputation as one of the top robot vacuum manufacturers by packing advanced cleaning technology into devices that fit a range of budgets. With smart navigation, powerful suction, and a history of good performance in our tests, Ecovacs offers something for everyone—from the budget-conscious buyer to those looking for premium, hands‑off cleaning solutions. In this guide, we’ll cut through the technical jargon to break down the lineup so that you can quickly spot which model is right for you.

Intro to Ecovacs DEEBOTs

DEEBOT Series

Ecovacs robot vacuums, called the DEEBOT (to differentiate Ecovacs robots from its other styles of vacuums) is made up of three main series. Each series divides again into what they call “Families,” which represent generational improvements.

  • N series robots are the budget robots in the Ecovacs brand, and they tend to lack some advances in navigation, tangle control, and mopping automation that the higher-end and later generations have. The N series is currently made up of two families, the N20 and the N30. Jump to N series
  • T series robots are more in the mid-range of Ecovacs robots. With several generations on offer, it is the most confusing series in the brand, with wide variation in features from one family to the next. Some of their functionality will overlap with older models in the higher tier. Jump to T series
  • X series robots are the most advanced and up-to-date robots in the Ecovacs DEEBOT lineup, with feature-rich products and their corresponding price-tags. Jump to X series

Ecovacs often releases small, incremental upgrades across all its series at the same time. As a result, a newer mid-range model—like the latest T-series robot—can outperform an older premium-tier model, such as an earlier X-series robot, because it carries newer innovations that the older premium model does not.

Smart App Integration

Ecovacs’ app offers virtual barriers, smart scheduling, and multi-level mapping, giving you clear control over your cleaning routine. We really like the Ecovacs app for its user-friendly interface and robust control abilities.

Ecovacs Naming Conventions

Terms like “Omni,” “Pro,” “Plus,” “Max,” and “AI” are supposed to signal the robot’s level of automation and performance. Unfortunately, like most robot vacuum manufacturers, these naming practices are often more for marketing purposes than for explaining the robot’s ability, and they often cause more confusion than clarity. For reference, here is a brief name key for understanding Ecovacs DEEBOT models:

  • Plus will refer to the base model (except in the T30S base model, which does not include Plus in the name.)
  • Pro will refer to a step above the Plus, typically found in suction power or mopping. In the case of mop-pads, it seems to have a different meaning.
  • Max is a step up from Pro, although this only appears in the T50 Max Pro Omni.
  • AI only appears once in the lineup and it refers to the first T30S model to include camera-based AI in its obstacle avoidance (which becomes the dominant obstacle avoidance strategy for Ecovacs from then on.)
  • Omni refers to DEEBOT’s all-in-one functional docking station (with mop pad washing and drying), although it is possible to have an Omni station included with a robot that does not have “Omni” in its name.
  • Combo refers to robots that come with an accompanying hand vacuum for above-floor cleaning, while Combo Complete is a Combo robot with a long wand to go along with the hand vacuum.

**Mop Head Names

OZMO Pro refers to a style of mophead. The “Pro” in its name doesn’t have any consistent connection with the DEEBOT PRO robot models, which is a little confusing. There are three styles of DEEBOT mop head:

  • OZMO Pro refers to a single, vibrating mop pad that is pulled behind the robot and does not lift for carpets.
  • OZMO Turbo refers to dual spinning mopheads.
  • OZMO Roller refers to a roller style mophead that is continually wetted with clean water and squeegeed from dirty water.

What All Ecovacs DEEBOTS Have

Although Ecovacs’ current DEEBOT lineup varies widely from model to model, there are several key features shared across all of them:

  • All DEEBOTs are vacuum/mop hybrids. Ecovacs does not currently offer any vacuum-only models.
  • App control is standard. Every DEEBOT works with the Ecovacs app, features some form of navigation and obstacle avoidance, and supports voice control via Alexa or Google Home.
  • Washable filters are included. Each model is equipped with a washable filter for easy maintenance.
  • Carpet detection is universal. While all DEEBOTs detect carpet, some entry-level models—such as the T10 family, T20 OMNI, and the X1 family—still require manual adjustment of suction power.
  • Threshold climbing capability. All models can cross thresholds up to 20mm. A few advanced models—the T50 MAX PRO OMNI, X2 OMNI, and X5 PRO OMNI—can handle thresholds up to 22mm.

Ecovacs N Series

Overview of the N Series

The N Series is all about delivering solid cleaning performance at a budget to mid-range price point. These models are perfect if you’re looking for a straightforward robot vacuum–mop combo that can handle daily debris and light mopping without breaking the bank.

⭐ You can see our review of the DEEBOT N20 PLUS here, which was our favorite budget robot vacuum in 2024.

Features of the N Series

The N series models use a top-mounted laser-based mapping sensor to map your home. They call their version of top-mounted LiDAR “TrueMapping,” and it has newer generations that increase its accuracy with higher-end and later models, but the essential technology is the same.

The N series has different obstacle avoidance technologies for each of its two families. The DEEBOT N20 family uses infrared sensors help it avoid obstacles. The DEEBOT N30 family uses 3D structured light, which is meant to be more precise than the infrared sensors.

Brushes

A Deebot N series robot underside view of brushes

The N series models have bristled main brushes with ZeroTangle technology for handling hair wrapping. The N20 brush is a floating brush for better movement across uneven surfaces while the N30 brush is non-floating. Both N families also have a fixed side brush to send debris into the path of the robot.

Suction

Both families in the N series deliver above-average suction for their price range, picking up everyday dirt on both hard floors and carpets. The N20 family has an official suction rating of 8,000Pa and the N30 has 10,000Pa, making them remarkably powerful for budget-range.

Mopping

One huge difference between the N20 family and the N30 family is found in their mopping functions:

The DEEBOT N20 Family uses a single mop pad for its mopping, which must be removed and attached manually. It does not lift over carpets, so vacuuming and mopping must be done in separate sessions if you have a lot of carpet or rugs. However, the N20 will recognize and avoid carpet. This single mop pad also vibrates to create a scrubbing action and it has automatic water release to wet the mop pad for you. The difference between N20 PLUS and N20 PRO PLUS is an upgrade to OZMO PRO 2.0 mop-pad, which is supposed to have a stronger mopping ability.

The DEEBOT N30 Family uses dual spinning mopheads that lift 9mm over carpets, eliminating the need for separate runs and improving automation. One of the mop heads also extends for edge cleaning that brings mopping to 1mm of the wall, which Ecovacs has named “TruEdge” technology.

Docking Features

A Deebot N20 with its bagless dock

The N20 Plus and the N20 Pro Plus both come with a bagless dustbin in their auto-empty dock, which is an attractive feature for customers who do not want the repeated cost of buying bags for the dock (The other member of the N20 family, the N20 Pro, comes without a dock and has a charger only, meaning that users must empty the robot’s bin by hand.).

The N30 OMNI and the N30 PRO OMNI each come with an OMNI dock, which is Ecovacs’ name for docks that have automatic mop washing and drying as well as auto-empty bagged dustbins. The main difference between the N30 OMNI and the N30 PRO OMNI is that the water for washing the PRO OMNI’s mop pads is heated to prevent odors and for better antibacterial properties.

Ecovacs T Series

T30s in Vacuum Wars Studio
© Vacuum Wars

Overview of the T Series

The mid-to-upper tier T Series has several “families” – the T10, the T20, the T30S, the T50, and the latest addition, the T80 – with list prices that can vary by almost $500, a fairly wide range (although these are often on sale or discounted). The T30S has the most members in its family, and from the outside it looks like the T30S family was used as a testing ground for some innovations that appeared in the T50 and then in the X series. With models that evolve incrementally, you will want to pay attention in the T series, as the models in this section of the lineup have the most variation.

The T series is where we are first introduced to YIKO, Ecovacs integrated voice assistant. The T10 OMNI does not carry YIKO, but all Ecovacs DEEBOTs from the T20 OMNI onward make use of YIKO.

The DEEBOT T30S COMBO and DEEBOT T30S COMBO COMPLETE are robot vacuums that include a second, handheld vacuum. The COMBO has a handheld vacuum for above-floor cleaning and the COMBO COMPLETE includes a long wand for floor or ceiling cleaning in addition to other above-floor cleaning.

Features of the T Series

With the exception of two models in the T50, families in the T series use the same top-mounted LiDAR that appeared in the N series to do the mapping of the house. The T50 breaks away with a fully embedded LiDAR to give the T50 OMNI and T50 PRO OMNI a low profile of only 81mm. The last member of the T50 family, the T50 MAX PRO OMNI has a slightly higher profile of 98mm.

In the same way that there are two technologies in the T series for navigation, there are also two technologies for obstacle avoidance. The first is called TrueDetect, which uses crossed-laser sensors for the robot to see low-lying objects in front of it that the LiDAR cannot detect. The other is AIVI 3D, which uses an RGB camera paired with artificial intelligence to recognize and avoid obstacles. AIVI 3D becomes the main obstacle avoidance strategy for Ecovacs robots moving forward. The robots equipped with RGB cameras allow video monitoring through the app.

Brushes

The T10 OMNI and T20 OMNI both use all rubber main brushes, which lack the anti-tangle properties of the ZeroTangle main brush, which appears on all other T series robots. The ZeroTangle brush is a bristled main brush with a tangle-releasing comb that slices and releases hair wraps with continued use.

The T10, T20, and T30S families all use a fixed side brush to sweep debris into the robot’s path. The T10 and T20 families use dual side brushes on either side the robot, while the rest of the T series uses a single side brush.

The T50 family introduces an extending side brush that is not seen again until the X8 family, while the newest family, the T80, changes the shape of its side brush to a V-shaped side-brush that many manufacturers are adopting to shake hair loose before it wraps around the brush.

Mopping

Most of the T families use the dual spinning mopheads (called OZMO Turbo), with an extending mop pad for edge cleaning. They lift 9mm over carpets so you can mop and vacuum hard floors and clean carpets in a single run. The higher-end T50 MAX PRO OMNI can lift its mop an impressive 18mm.

The new roller style mop, called the OZMO Roller, is scheduled to appear on the T-series for the first time with the T80 OMNI robot. This roller mop appeared first in the X8 OMNI, and this style mop is known to perform well on wet spills.

Docking Features

Ecovacs X Series

ecovacs deebot x8 in vacuum wars studio
© Vacuum Wars

Overview of the X Series

Ecovacs’ X Series represents the premium end of the Ecovacs spectrum. If you want enhanced automation, powerful suction, and enhanced technologies, then these models are your top choice. Like the other DEEBOT families, they move generationally from lower model numbers to higher model numbers, so the X1 is earliest, X2 is newer, and so on.

Notably, the X2 OMNI and the X5 Pro OMNI were redesigned to be square-shaped to better situate the robot into corners.

Features of the X Series

DEEBOT navigation received some changes in the X series. The X1 OMNI, the X1 TURBO, and the X2 COMBO are equipped with the same top-mounted LiDAR we saw in most of the T series.

The X2 COMBO, the X2 OMNI, and the X8 PRO OMNI have fully embedded LiDAR that is encased in the robot’s body, bringing their profiles down to fit under low furniture.

All X series DEEBOTS use the RGB-camera and AI strategy for obstacle avoidance, with the possible exception of the X5 PRO OMNI.

The X5 PRO OMNI uses a technology they call AINI 2.0, which combines LiDAR, structured light, RGB cameras, and machine learning to navigate and avoid obstacles. This serves as both the navigating and obstacle avoidance technology for this model.

Brushes

The X1 and X2 families use rubber brushes without ZeroTangle abilities. They can detect hair or string tangles, but they cannot manage tangles on their own. The X5 and X8 families upgrade to the ZeroTangle brush with a hair-snipping comb to release hair wrapping.

The X1 family has dual side brushes, but as this can double the chances of hair tangles, the rest of the X series upgrades to a single brush. The X8 updates further to include an extending side brush. The X9 OMNI goes further still with an update to the ZeroTangle technology that changes the shape of the side brush to the increasingly popular V-shape that shakes hair free before it wraps around the brush.

Suction

Suction varies widely on the X series, ranging from 5000Pa to 18000Pa:

Mopping

The X1 Plus uses the single vibrating mop pad that does not lift over carpets or mop close to edges, although it does have an electric water tank that wets the pad for you, and the robot detects and avoids carpets during mopping runs.

The X1 Turbo, X1 OMNI, as well as the X2 and X5 families, use the dual spinning mop pads that extend to reach into edges.

The X8 switched to a design that is new to Ecovacs DEEBOTS and is typically seen only in stick hard floor cleaners: a roller mop that is continually wetted with clean water and squeegeed from dirty water. This design appears again on the X9 PRO OMNI.

Conclusion

Whether you’re eyeing a budget‑friendly option from the N Series, a solid mid‑range performer from the T Series, or the feature‑rich X Series, Ecovacs offers a diverse range of robot vacuums designed to fit your cleaning needs and lifestyle. Our guide has laid out what each series brings to the table, so you can make an informed decision based on the expected user experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main differences between Ecovacs N Series, T Series, and X Series robot vacuums?

The N Series is budget‑friendly with basic LiDAR mapping and essential mopping. The T Series sits in the mid‑range, offering stronger suction, smarter obstacle avoidance (TrueDetect/AIVI), and more advanced Omni docking options. The X Series is the premium lineup, with top‑tier suction, cutting‑edge navigation (AINI 2.0), and fully automated Omni stations featuring hot‑water mop washing, drying, and water refill.

What do “Plus,” “Pro,” “Max,” “AI,” “Omni,” “Combo,” and “Combo Complete” mean in Ecovacs model names?

Plus will refer to the base model (except in the T30S base model, which does not include Plus in the name)

Pro will refer to a step above the Plus, typically found in suction power or mopping

Max is a step up from Pro

AI includes camera-based AI in its obstacle avoidance

Omni refers to DEEBOT’s all-in-one functional docking station

Combo refers to robots that come with an accompanying hand vacuum for above-floor cleaning

Combo Complete is a Combo robot with a long wand to go along with the hand vacuum

Are any Ecovacs DEEBOTs vacuum‑only, or do they all mop as well?

All current Ecovacs DEEBOTs are vacuum‑mop hybrids—you won’t find vacuum‑only models in the latest lineup. Every DEEBOT can both vacuum and mop, though older or refurbished units might differ.

What is an Ecovacs Omni Station and which DEEBOT models use it?

The Omni Station is a docking base that automatically empties the robot’s dustbin, washes and dries mop pads (with hot or lukewarm water), and refills clean water. You’ll find Omni‑compatible models across the N30, T20 onward, and all X Series (e.g. N30 Pro Omni, T50 Max Pro Omni, X8 Pro Omni).

What are the different DEEBOT mop head types—OZMO Pro, OZMO Turbo, and OZMO Roller—and which models use them?

OZMO Pro: Single vibrating pad (used on N20 family and X1 Plus), no auto‑lift.

OZMO Turbo: Dual spinning pads with edge‑extending and auto‑lift (found on N30, T20 Plus, T30S, and most X2/X5 models).

OZMO Roller: Continuous roller mop for wet spills and less streaks in cleaning (X8 Pro Omni)
