How the Bissell TurboClean Pet XL Carpet Cleaner Works
The TurboClean Pet XL works like most carpet cleaners in its class. You simply fill the clean water tank with warm water and the included cleaning solution, turn it on, and vacuum back and forth like a regular vacuum.

It’s priced very close to ultra-budget options like the Hoover PowerDash Pet—and when you look at what you’re getting for that money, the TurboClean Pet XL is a much more capable machine.

Hose and Attachments
The TurboClean Pet XL comes with a seven-foot hose that lets you use it for above-floor cleaning jobs, including upholstery, pet beds, carpeted stairs, and other similar things. Most carpet cleaners at this price don’t have a hose. The hose turns this machine from a single-purpose carpet cleaner into something much more useful.
There are two attachments that come with this model:
- A three-inch tough stain tool, which is a great general-purpose scrubbing tool that works well on concentrated stains.
- A spraying crevice tool for reaching tight corners and along baseboards.
Tank Size and Capacity
Another big pro is the tank size. The TurboClean Pet XL has a one-gallon clean water tank, which is right at the average across carpet cleaners we’ve evaluated. While that may not sound impressive on its own, it’s a big deal considering a lot of the competition in this category has tanks half the size or smaller.
A larger tank means fewer refills, which makes a difference when you’re cleaning a large area. Plus, the TurboClean Pet XL includes a matching one-gallon dirty water tank, so you won’t have to empty it constantly.
Weight and Maneuverability
At 16.5 pounds, the TurboClean Pet XL is lighter than the average carpet cleaner (20 pounds) and many mid-range machines that cost considerably more. It’s easy to maneuver, and the handles are well-positioned—making it comfortable to use for a full cleaning session. It’s one of the more practical options on the market if you’re looking for a lightweight carpet cleaner to use at home.
Cord Length and Usability
The cord length of the Bissell TurboClean Pet XL is 20 feet, which is much longer than that of the Hoover PowerDash Pet. Cleaning Performance
This is where things get interesting. As far as cleaning performance goes, the TurboClean Pet XL scored about average for stain removal—82.7 compared to the overall average of 83.5. In that assessment, we pour a fixed amount of grape juice on a white carpet, let it dry for at least 24 hours, and then run four complete back-and-forth timed passes before measuring the result with a colorimeter.
An average score might not sound like a headline until you consider that the average here is across 30-plus carpet cleaners, including flagships that cost two or even three times as much. Holding its own against those machines in stain removal at this price is impressive. This also makes it a strong candidate if you want something that cleans carpets well or effectively handles dried stains and pet messes without the heavy price tag.
The carpet cleaner uses Bissell’s 4-Row DeepReach PowerBrush, which is a single-roller design with extra-long bristles. Bissell says it gives the TurboClean Pet XL deep reach into carpet fibers, and based on our stain evaluation results, it’s doing its job.
Cons of the Bissell TurboClean Pet XL
The main downside is raw power. The TurboClean Pet XL has a 6-amp motor, which is notably below the average of 8.93 we see across carpet cleaners we’ve evaluated. That showed up in both our sealed suction and unsealed suction measurements, where it came in below average. But as we saw with its stain assessment, that didn’t translate into noticeably worse cleaning results.
Even so, the raw power drawback is worth knowing if you have particularly heavy soiling or embedded stains that need strong suction to extract water effectively. In other words, while it performs well overall, it may not be the best carpet cleaner for heavily soiled areas compared to higher-end machines.
Bissell TurboClean Pet XL Review: Is It Worth Buying?
After adding up all the scores, the Bissell TurboClean Pet XL ranked 9th out of the 30-plus carpet cleaners we’ve assessed. That’s a strong result for a machine at this price point, and most of the carpet cleaners ahead of it cost significantly more. This places the TurboClean Pet XL firmly in the upper tier of budget-friendly models.
It’s a strong value pick that remains competitive even against some mid-range options. If you’re weighing it against something like the Hoover PowerDash Pet, the hose feature alone is enough to consider it over similarly priced models. When you add the larger tank, lighter weight, and competitive stain-removal performance, it’s a compelling package for the money.
