Narwal S20 Pro Review: Mid-Range Vacuum Mop Combo With Top-Tier Mopping Results

The Narwal S20 Pro is a mid-range vacuum mop combo in Narwal’s hard floor cleaner lineup, but it borrows a lot of the same ideas you usually only see on higher-end models. We bought one with our own money and put it through our full testing process to see where it stands—everything from vacuuming and mopping performance to maintenance and smart features. Here’s how it did.

Narwal S20 Pro Vacuum Mop Combo Overview

The Narwal S20 Pro is a cordless hard floor cleaner, or vacuum mop combo, that basically works like a regular vacuum, except it also washes the floor at the same time. In addition to the hard floor cleaner itself, it comes with a self-cleaning base, a cleaning brush, and detergent.

To use the S20 Pro, you fill the clean water tank with water and the included solution, turn it on, and vacuum back and forth as usual.

The soft roller is constantly being sprayed with clean water, and a squeegee pulls the dirty water off the roller as it mops and sends it to the dirty water tank. It can handle dry debris while mopping, so it really does function as a simultaneous vacuum and a mop.

It can go over rugs in a pinch, but we don’t recommend it for serious rug cleaning since it still puts down some water and doesn’t provide a deep clean.

When you’re finished, it has a self-cleaning cycle, but you’ll still need to dump and rinse the dirty tank afterward.

Narwal S20 Pro Pros and Value for the Price

Starting off with the pros, the Narwal S20 Pro provides a lot of value for the price and has almost all the features as our current #1 Pick on our Best Hard Floor Cleaners list, but at only half the price, and even less when it’s on sale.

Narwal S20 Pro Mopping Performance and Stain Removal Test

The S20 Pro did really well on our stain test, which is where we use the machine as directed to clean dried-on pre-made cold pressed coffee stains of varying difficulties and point values. There are four rounds with two timed passes per row in each round, and the cleaner earns more points the earlier it removes each stain.

The Narwal S20 Pro scored 151 points, which is above our running average of 140 points.

But as we’ve learned over the years, stain removal alone doesn’t tell the whole story. A machine can look great on this test if it simply puts a ton of water on the floor—something you don’t want because it leads to streaking and long dry times. The goal is a cleaner that can remove stains efficiently without soaking the floor.

So, we also measure how much water is left behind. We do that with a paper towel that we weigh before and after the test on a very sensitive scale, which gives us a water penalty score.

The S20 Pro did very well here, too, leaving only 0.44 g compared to the 1 g average.

We then combine the stain score and the water penalty score into one overall mopping performance number. The S20 Pro tied for first place out of all the hard floor cleaners we’ve tested with 175 points, compared to our average combined mopping score of 138 across all hard floor cleaners we have evaluated.

Narwal S20 Pro Self-Cleaning Dock and Heated Drying

Overall, maintenance is very easy. A feature we think is particularly useful is its self-cleaning system. Most hard floor cleaners have some kind of self-clean cycle, but the S20 Pro takes it a bit further. You just set it on the dock, press the button, and it runs water through the brush and internal tubing to clear everything out.

After that, it uses heated air up to about 149°F to dry the roller so it doesn’t stay damp or start to smell. It’s a much more hygienic setup than older hard floor cleaners, which is a big pro as long as you still empty and rinse the dirty water tank afterward.

Narwal S20 Pro Features and Cleaning Modes

It also has what Narwal calls AI DirtSense, which detects debris and automatically adjusts power levels. There are also five cleaning modes you can choose from, including two smart modes, quiet mode, suction mode, and turbo mode.

The LCD screen gives you this information in real time, including your current battery level.

Narwal S20 Pro Maneuverability, Weight, and Edge Cleaning

The Narwal S20 Pro is extremely easy to maneuver. It’s lightweight, weighing only 4,254 g, which is just 9.4 lb. That’s noticeably lighter than the average hard floor cleaner weight of 4,609 g (10.1 lb).

It also has self-propelled drive, but where other hard floor vacuums with self-propelled drive lock you into going a particular speed, the Narwal is more forgiving, which we like.

Another nice feature it has is side cleaning, which basically describes how close the brush roller gets to the edge of the floor head and therefore how well the machine can clean along walls and baseboards. Some models only have edge cleaning on one side, but the Narwal has it on both.

It also lays fully flat to get under low furniture, something earlier generations struggled with because tilting them too far would cause the dirty water tank to spill, so this is a nice upgrade.

Narwal S20 Pro Anti-Hair Wrap, Voice Assistant, and Wi-Fi

It has an anti-hair wrap system that uses a dual-layer comb to catch hair and keep it from wrapping around the roller. It is also equipped with a voice assistant and Wi-Fi.

Narwal S20 Pro Battery Life and Runtime

The Narwal S20 Pro is a cordless model and has a maximum runtime of up to 60 minutes. That’s quite a bit higher than the roughly 35-minute average we typically see with hard floor cleaners. Though, of course, actual runtime will vary depending on the mode and how you use it.

Narwal S20 Pro Cons: Suction, Tank Size, and Missing Features

Moving on to the cons.

To test its suction, we measure it directly at the floor head on maximum power to get what we call its usable suction. The Narwal S20 Pro scored significantly below average here at 0.55 kPa compared to the average 1 kPa of all the hard floor cleaners we’ve tested. This didn’t seem to affect much given its stain removal scores, but it’s worth mentioning.

Its tank size was also a bit below average at 0.79 L, compared to the average 1.0 L.

Lastly, it doesn’t have LED lights on the floor head, which isn’t a huge deal, but they are a useful feature to help you spot debris you would have missed otherwise.

Is the Narwal S20 Pro Worth It? Final Verdict

It isn’t the highest scoring hard floor cleaner we tested, but it is the one we enjoyed using the most. It delivers top-tier mopping performance, has most of the advanced features you’d expect from a flagship model, and it does all of that at about half the price of some of the most premium models available today.

There are some trade-offs, like lower usable suction and a slightly smaller tank. But those weren’t deal-breakers for us given its performance.

Overall, if you want excellent cleaning performance, a lot of premium features, and strong real-world usability without paying flagship prices, the Narwal S20 Pro is a great fit. It also stands out in our testing as a first-place performer in combined mopping score, making it one of the most compelling mid-range hard floor cleaners we’ve evaluated.
