Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus Review: Excellent Cleaning, Hard to Recommend

The Quick Verdict: Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus

The Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus delivers excellent debris pickup on both carpets and hard floors and includes several genuinely useful convenience features, such as FloorDetect technology and Shark’s MultiFLEX wand. It also offers good carpet deep-cleaning performance, quiet operation, and a larger dustbin than some competing cordless vacuums. However, its below-average suction metrics, poor crevice cleaning performance, failed filtration test, and relatively high price make it difficult for us to recommend. For shoppers looking for better overall value, the Levoit LVAC-200 remains our current Best Budget Cordless Vacuum pick and outperformed the Shark in several important categories while costing roughly half as much.

The Shark PowerPro Flex Pet+ is a mid-range cordless stick vacuum that impressed in several key performance areas, especially debris pickup. In testing, it delivered near-perfect carpet pickup and a perfect hard-floor pickup score, and its carpet deep-cleaning performance was also strong, removing 96% of embedded sand from medium-pile carpet, above the 93% average. Additional strengths include a detachable battery rated for up to 50 minutes on low power, a quieter-than-average noise level of 74 dB, a larger-than-average 748 ml dustbin, FloorDetect technology that automatically adjusts brushroll speed based on floor type, Shark’s versatile MultiFLEX wand for reaching under furniture and compact storage, and LED headlights. However, several drawbacks significantly affected its overall rating. Airflow, sealed suction, and unsealed suction were all below average, with only 64 inches of water lift and 0.09 kPa unsealed suction at the floor head. It also scored zero points in crevice pickup testing, failed the filtration fog test by allowing visible dust leakage, and has a heavier-than-average handle weight of 1,624 grams that can cause fatigue during handheld use. Overall, despite excellent pickup performance and useful features, its weak power metrics and poor filtration make it difficult to recommend at its current price. See additional info

Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus – Right in the Middle

The Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus sits somewhere in the middle of Shark’s cordless vacuum lineup. It’s neither the company’s flagship model nor its budget offering, occupying a mid-range position in both price and features.

We purchased one ourselves and put it through several weeks of testing in our studio. Along the way, we compared it to our current Best Budget Cordless Vacuum pick, the Levoit LVAC-200 (see our review), which sells for roughly half the price. As we’ll discuss throughout this review, that comparison ends up being particularly revealing.

Features and Design

The Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus is a cordless stick vacuum equipped with Shark’s PowerFins multi-surface floorhead, which is designed to clean both carpets and hard floors without requiring a nozzle swap. The vacuum includes Shark’s FloorDetect technology, which automatically senses floor type and adjusts brushroll speed accordingly. The goal is to optimize both battery usage and cleaning performance without requiring user input.

Another standout feature is Shark’s MultiFLEX wand. It bends at the wand joint, making it easier to reach underneath furniture that might otherwise need to be moved. The floorhead also includes integrated LED lights to help illuminate debris that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Like other Shark cordless vacuums in this design family, additional suction power is activated using a trigger rather than a lockable button.

Pickup Performance

Starting with the pros, the Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus stands out most for its pickup ability. On carpets, it was nearly flawless, picking up everything we tested, from fine debris to extra-large particles. It handled every debris size we threw at it without issue.

Performance on hard floors was equally impressive. In fact, it achieved a perfect score in our hard floor pickup evaluation, successfully collecting debris all the way through the largest sizes we test.

This was actually one area where it outperformed the Levoit LVAC-200. While the Levoit could technically pick up some of the largest hard floor debris, it wasn’t quite as consistent as the Shark.

In practical terms, both vacuums performed very well where it matters most: removing debris from the surfaces of hard floors and carpets.

Carpet Deep Cleaning Performance

The Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus also performed well in our carpet deep-cleaning test. In this evaluation, we embed sand into medium-pile carpet and measure how much is removed after a fixed number of passes on maximum power. The Shark achieved a score of 96%, which is comfortably above the cordless vacuum average of 93%. Notably, the Levoit LVAC-200 achieved the exact same 96% result.

Battery Life, Noise, and Dustbin Capacity

Battery Life

Battery life was another positive. Shark rates the PowerPro Flex Pet Plus for up to 50 minutes of runtime on low power, which exceeds the cordless vacuum average of 45.1 minutes. The Levoit LVAC-200 is rated for the same runtime. In our maximum-power runtime test with the floorhead attached, the Shark ran for 12.2 minutes. While that falls slightly below the category average of 13.5 minutes, it was essentially identical to the Levoit’s 12-minute result.

Battery efficiency was also competitive. Our battery efficiency metric combines maximum-power runtime with airflow performance to evaluate how efficiently the battery and motor work together. The Shark earned a score of 15.1 compared to the Levoit’s 15.3 and the category average of 15.9.

The battery is detachable, which is always a welcome feature and makes replacement or spare battery options easier for owners.

Vacuum Noise

The Shark was also quieter than average. We measured 74 dB compared to the category average of 77.3 dB. The Levoit measured 78 dB.

Dustbin Capacity

Its dustbin capacity was another advantage. At 748 ml, it is essentially right at the category average of 746 ml and noticeably larger than the Levoit’s 580 ml dustbin. For larger homes or households with pets, that additional capacity can reduce the number of times you need to stop and empty the bin.

FloorDetect Technology and MultiFLEX Wand

The Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus includes a few convenience features that help distinguish it from the Levoit LVAC-200. FloorDetect technology automatically senses the floor type and adjusts brushroll speed, helping optimize both battery life and cleaning performance.

The MultiFLEX wand is another useful feature. It allows the vacuum to bend and reach under furniture more easily, while also folding in half for compact storage. It’s a genuinely practical design that Shark has refined over multiple product generations. These features don’t necessarily affect cleaning performance directly, but they do improve the overall ownership experience.

Power Tests Raise Concerns

This is where things start to become surprising. For a Shark cordless vacuum in this category, the power-related results were noticeably below average. Its wand airflow measured below average. More concerning was its sealed suction result. In our sealed suction test, where we block airflow and measure raw pulling power, the Shark produced 64 inches of water lift. That’s well below the category average of 73.3 inches and significantly below the Levoit LVAC-200’s 82-inch result.

Its unsealed suction performance was even more disappointing. At the floorhead, the Shark measured just 0.09 kPa. The category average is 0.58 kPa, while the Levoit recorded 0.42 kPa.

We should mention an important testing consideration. The Shark uses a trigger-based boost system rather than a lockable maximum-power mode. That means maximum power requires continuously holding the trigger during testing. We carefully reviewed our footage to ensure the vacuum was operating on maximum power throughout the evaluations. Even after accounting for that, the results remained lower than expected.

Crevice Pickup Performance

The lower power numbers showed up in practical testing as well. In our crevice pickup test, the Shark scored zero out of four possible points. The Levoit scored three points, while the category average is 2.5.

This was one of the clearest examples where the lower suction metrics translated into a measurable real-world disadvantage.

Filtration Performance

The filtration result was another significant surprise. Historically, Shark cordless vacuums in this design family have performed well in our fog testing. Models like the Shark Vertex (see our review), Shark Stratos (see our review), and Shark PowerDetect (see our review) have all produced strong results. The Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus did not. During our filtration evaluation, we observed visible fog escaping from the vacuum.

Person operating a handheld fogging device connected to a black FM-500 unit, releasing mist onto a wooden table.

While some variability can exist in this type of testing, we conducted the test carefully and consistently observed the same result. The Levoit LVAC-200, despite costing roughly half as much, passed the same test cleanly.

Filtration is important because it determines whether captured dust remains inside the vacuum or is released back into the air. As a result, this is not a result we can easily overlook.

Handle Weight and Handheld Usability

Another drawback is handle weight. The Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus measured 1,624 grams in our handle-weight evaluation. That’s heavier than both the category average of 1,511.8 grams and the Levoit’s 1,444-gram handle.

That extra weight is most noticeable during handheld cleaning. In our experience, cordless stick vacuums with long motorized handles are already less comfortable for extended above-floor cleaning tasks, and the heavier Shark only amplifies that issue.

A person in a gray fleece jacket vacuuming a living room with a white cordless stick vacuum, brown sofa, and green plant in the background.

Neither vacuum is particularly well suited for long handheld cleaning sessions, but the Shark is the more fatiguing option of the two.

Final Verdict

After adding up all the scores and observations, we can’t recommend the Shark PowerPro Flex Pet Plus at its current price. There are several things it does very well. Its debris pickup performance on both carpets and hard floors is excellent. The FloorDetect system adds convenience, the MultiFLEX wand remains genuinely useful, and the larger dustbin is a meaningful advantage for some users.

However, for a Shark cordless vacuum in this price range, the power-related results were a significant disappointment. More importantly, the filtration performance raises concerns that we simply can’t ignore.

Shark has several cordless vacuums that we currently recommend, with multiple models maintaining spots on our Top Ten Cordless Vacuums list over time. Unfortunately, the PowerPro Flex Pet Plus doesn’t offer the level of performance or value we’d expect at its price point. For budget-conscious shoppers, the Levoit LVAC-200 (see our review) remains our current Best Budget Cordless Vacuum pick. It matched or exceeded the Shark in several key categories while selling for roughly half the price.
