What Is the Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam?

First, the basics. The Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam is a hard floor cleaner, also known as a vacuum mop combo. To use it, you fill the clean water tank with water, power it on, and move it back and forth like a regular vacuum, except it vacuums and mops at the same time.

Its soft roller is constantly sprayed with water while a built-in squeegee pulls dirty water off the roller and sends it to the dirty water tank. It can pick up dry debris while it mops, so it truly works as both a vacuum and a mop in one step. It can also handle light rug vacuuming, but it isn’t designed for deep carpet cleaning since it releases some water and doesn’t agitate rug fibers.

It includes a self-cleaning cycle, but you’ll still need to empty and rinse the dirty water tank when you’re finished.

Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam Pros

Starting with the pros, the biggest standout feature is where the S9 Artist Steam gets its name: what Tineco calls the HyperSteam system. It produces steam at around 320°F and keeps it above 210°F during use, which helps break down tougher stuck-on stains. Since it uses steam, it can also sanitize floors without relying entirely on cleaning solution.

HyperSteam System: Steam Cleaning for Stuck-On Stains

It performed extremely well in our stain test, where we use the machine as directed to clean dried-on, pre-made cold-pressed coffee stains of varying difficulty and point values.

The test has four rounds, with two timed passes per row in each round, and the cleaner earns more points the earlier it removes each stain. The S9 Artist Steam scored 151 points, which is higher than the average score of 140 points.

Ideally, you want a vacuum mop that removes stains effectively without leaving excess water behind, which can lead to streaks and longer dry times. To account for that, we also calculate a water penalty score by measuring how much water is left on the floor using a paper towel that we weigh before and after the test on a sensitive scale. The S9 Artist Steam performed well here too, leaving behind only 0.4 grams of water compared to the 1 gram average.

In our water left behind testing, the Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam left just 0.4 grams of water on the floor compared to the 1.0-gram average. © Vacuum Wars

We then combine that result with a stain reduction score to create one overall mopping performance score. The S9 Artist Steam earned 175 points, tying for first place among all the hard floor cleaners we’ve tested.

Cordless Battery Life and iLoop Smart Sensor Performance

Another major advantage is the quality and quantity of features. The Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam is a cordless hard floor cleaner. You might expect steam cleaning to reduce battery life, but it tied for first place with the Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Pro at 75 minutes. This is a huge improvement over the average battery life for these machines at about 35 minutes.

It also includes Tineco’s iLoop smart sensor, which detects debris and moisture and automatically adjusts suction and roller speed. It displays this information in real time, along with battery life, on an LCD screen.

It also has self-propelled movement, so pushing it forward, pulling it backward, or maneuvering around obstacles takes very little effort. This makes it easy to use despite its weight, which we’ll cover later in the cons section.

Triple-Sided Edge Cleaning and Lay-Flat Design

Unlike other hard floor cleaners that offer edge cleaning on one or two sides, the S9 Artist Steam has triple-sided edge cleaning. This helps it reach tight corners and edges along both sides and the front of the cleaning head.

It can also lay flat on the floor to reach under furniture and other low-clearance areas. Older generations of hard floor cleaners struggled with this because tilting too far could cause the dirty water tank to spill, so this is a meaningful improvement.

Anti-Hair Wrap and FlashDry Self-Cleaning

It also includes an anti-hair wrap system that uses two scrapers to catch hair and help prevent tangling on the roller. Another key feature is its self-cleaning system.

While most vacuum mop combos include some type of self-cleaning feature, the S9 Artist Steam has what Tineco calls FlashDry self-cleaning. You place it on the dock, press the button, and it uses leftover clean water and solution to wash the brush and flush internal tubes.

It then uses heated water to dissolve residue and blows hot air onto the roller and through the rest of the machine to dry it out before bacteria can grow. This makes it significantly more sanitary than older-style hard floor cleaners. As long as you empty and rinse the dirty water tank afterward, routine maintenance is simple.

Reliability and Amazon One-Star Review Percentage

We also measured reliability using what we call the Amazon one-star review percentage. This shows how many buyers had a poor enough experience to leave a one-star rating, which can highlight real-world issues like leaks or durability problems that don’t always appear in short-term testing. The S9 Artist Steam has an 11% one-star review rate, which is better than the 14% average we typically see for hard floor cleaners. Overall customer feedback is also solid, with an average rating of 4.2 stars.

Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam Cons

Moving on to the cons, the Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam is very heavy. It was the second heaviest hard floor cleaner we compared, weighing 6,148 grams, which is over 13.5 pounds. This is likely related to the steam system, since the heaviest models we’ve tested are steam models. The average hard floor cleaner weighs in much less at 4,609 grams (10.1 lbs).

While the weight is noticeable, the self-propel system offsets it significantly, so it’s still easy to maneuver, but it’s worth noting. While self-propel is helpful, it does set the pace of cleaning for you, which is fine for most people but not always ideal depending on personal preference.

Slightly Below Average Water Tank Size

Finally, the last con we will mention is a slightly smaller than average tank capacity. The Floor One S9 Artist Steam’s water tank measured at 0.88 liters, while the average is a full 1 Liter.

Should You Buy the Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam?

Overall, the Tineco Floor One S9 Artist Steam is one of the most capable hard floor cleaners we’ve tested. Its steam cleaning system, top-tier mopping performance, long battery life, and extensive feature set help it stand out from the competition. While it’s heavier than most models and its suction is only slightly above average, the self-propel system and thoughtful design make it a strong option for everyday use.
