Best Vacuum Cleaners - 2026

Finding the best vacuum cleaner or floorcare machine depends on the way you clean. A home with pets, mixed flooring, thick carpet, or frequent wet messes may need a very different product than a smaller home with mostly hard floors. That is why Vacuum Wars tracks recommendations by category rather than treating every vacuum or cleaner as part of one universal list.

This page brings together our current top recommendations across robot vacuums, cordless vacuums, upright vacuums, carpet cleaners, hard floor cleaners, and portable spot cleaners. Each section highlights our current category picks, including Best Overall, Best Value, and Best Budget selections where applicable.

Our recommendations are based on independent Vacuum Wars testing, current pricing, availability, product features, and long-term owner feedback. This list is updated regularly as new models are tested and market conditions change. For deeper results and comparisons, use the links in each section to visit our full Top Picks lists.

What Changed This Week

Last updated: July 7, 2026

After completing our latest evaluations, two powerful cleaners have been added to this list: the Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine has moved into the Best Overall position for cordless vacuums, and the Eufy C28 Omni has also returned to the Value position for robot vacuums after pricing fluctuations during Prime Week sales settled.

How We Choose These Picks

Vacuum Wars buys and tests products independently. Our picks are based on our in-house testing, category-specific scoring, feature evaluations, current pricing, availability, and long-term category tracking. When relevant, we also consider user satisfaction data, reliability signals, and how a product compares with similarly priced alternatives.

Our Best Overall, Best Value, and Best Budget picks are not chosen by the same criteria.

  • Best Overall is the strongest all-around pick in its category, based on performance, features, usability, and overall category standing.
  • Best Value is the product that offers the best balance of performance, features, price, and ownership proposition.
  • Best Budget is the lower-cost option we would still recommend, with clear tradeoffs compared with higher-ranked models.

Robot Vacuums

Robot vacuums are best for automated maintenance cleaning. They are especially useful for homes with daily debris, pet hair, mixed flooring, or anyone who wants cleaner floors with less manual effort. Higher-end models may include mop washing and drying, obstacle avoidance, advanced mapping, and automated maintenance features. Budget models usually focus more on basic vacuuming and navigation.

Best for: automated daily cleaning, pet hair maintenance, hard floors, low- to medium-pile carpets, mixed flooring

Not ideal for: stairs, deep manual carpet cleaning, upholstery, cars, or replacing every type of vacuum in the home

This is our Best Overall robot vacuum because it offers the strongest combination of cleaning performance, navigation, automation, and premium features in the category.

The Dreame L60 Ultra PE is a midrange robot vacuum and mop with 30,000Pa Vormax suction, a tangle-resistant HyperStream DuoBrush, an extending side brush, dual spinning mop pads operating at 165 rpm with 13N of pressure, 10.5mm mop lift, LiDAR navigation, AI-camera and 3D ToF obstacle avoidance, Matter support, onboard voice control, and a dock that auto-empties, refills water and detergent, washes and self-cleans with boiling water, and dries the pads with hot air. In testing, it scored 94% in carpet deep cleaning, the second-highest result among nearly 200 robots, plus 100% flattened pet-hair pickup with 0% brush wrap. It avoided 21 of 24 obstacles, crossed 19mm thresholds but failed at 25mm, cleaned faster than average, and achieved above-average coverage per charge despite below-average battery efficiency. General pickup was strong, though fine debris scattered slightly on hard floors, crevice pickup was average, stain removal was below average due to low water output, suction and airflow bench scores were low, and the dustbin is small. Dreame’s app offers granular controls, schedules, no-go and no-mop zones, and floor-direction cleaning. Even with a handful of average scores, the L60 Ultra PE was an impressive robot, all the more so for its price range. These results sent the L60 Ultra PE straight to the top of our Top 20 Robot vacuum list. See additional info

The Best Value robot vacuum delivers a strong balance of performance, features, and price compared with the rest of the category.

The Ecovacs T80s Omni is a mid-range robot vacuum that delivered impressive performance across nearly every major test category. Its strongest advantage is floor cleaning, with suction measuring 2.5 times higher than average and airflow also exceeding average benchmarks. In carpet deep-cleaning tests, it removed 91% of embedded sand, outperforming even the more expensive T90. The ZeroTangle 3.0 brush system excelled with pet hair, achieving 100% pickup of flattened 2.5-inch hair and recording zero tangles in tests using 7-inch hair, compared to a 26% average tangle rate. Mopping was another highlight, thanks to its Ozmo Roller 2.0 system, which continuously rinses the roller, handles wet spills effectively, lifts 15 mm over carpets, extends to edges, and earned a high combined mopping score with excellent stain removal and minimal residual water. Obstacle avoidance was outstanding, successfully avoiding 21 of 24 test objects using its RGB camera and structured-light sensor system. Additional benefits include a multifunction dock with 75°C hot-water mop washing, 62°C hot-air drying, strong battery efficiency, and a feature-rich app. The primary drawback was below-average navigation efficiency, leading to slower floor coverage, slightly below-average estimated coverage per charge, and occasional user-reported mapping issues. Our Best Budget robot vacuum keeps the price lower while still offering the core features and cleaning ability we look for in a recommendable model.

The Eufy C28 Omni is a robot vacuum/mop combo that impressed in testing with a strong mix of cleaning performance, automation, and value. Its HydroJet continuous-clean roller mop sprays fresh water onto the roller while collecting dirty water separately, helping it handle wet messes without spreading them around. The mop spins at 270 RPM, applies 9.8N of pressure, lifts 10.8 mm over carpets, achieved an above-average dried-stain score, left only about one-quarter as much water behind as the average robot, and earned a combined mopping score that ranked it among the top 10 mopping systems in the test database. Vacuuming was also a strength, with 15,000Pa suction, an 89% carpet deep-clean score, perfect removal of 2.5-inch pet hair, and a flawless anti-tangle result with 7-inch hair. Additional advantages include an auto-emptying and self-maintaining dock, hot-air mop drying at 50°C (122°F), a feature-rich app with multi-floor mapping and voice assistant support, and above-average navigation efficiency. Drawbacks include below-average obstacle avoidance, successfully avoiding only 15 of 24 test obstacles, a taller-than-average body that may struggle under low furniture, below-average battery efficiency despite slightly above-average estimated coverage per charge, and an app that lacks some advanced automation options found on competitors. Best for: sealed hard floors, wet messes, sticky debris, kitchen floors, pet mess maintenance

Not ideal for: carpet cleaning, rugs, stairs, dry-only vacuuming, or unsealed wood floors

Top Hard Floor Cleaners

Explore Vacuum Wars’ always up-to-date rankings of the best hard floor cleaners, based on independent testing. Whether you’re dealing with everyday messes, stuck-on spills, or routine maintenance on sealed floors, our top picks make it easy to find the right cleaner for the job.

Best Hard Floor Cleaners

Cordless Vacuums

Cordless vacuums are designed for convenient whole-home cleaning without a cord. They are often a good fit for quick daily cleanups, hard floors, carpets, stairs, furniture, and above-floor cleaning. Many cordless models convert into handheld vacuums and include attachments for different surfaces.

Best for: quick cleanups, whole-home convenience, hard floors, carpets, stairs, furniture, above-floor cleaning

Not ideal for: users who want unlimited runtime, very large homes without charging breaks, or a traditional upright feel

This is our Best Overall cordless vacuum because it offers the strongest balance of pickup performance, battery life, usability, attachments, filtration, and floor-type versatility in the category.

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine combines Dyson’s flagship cordless vacuum with the Submarine 2.0 wet-cleaning head, adding dedicated hard floor mopping without sacrificing the vacuum’s excellent cleaning performance. In testing, it matched the standard V16 in vacuuming ability while delivering above-average results in dried-on stain removal, outperforming both the Dyson WashG1 and Dyson’s newer hygiene-focused floor cleaner. The Submarine head automatically recognizes when attached, offers two water flow settings, and keeps the entire wet-cleaning system inside the head, preventing dirty water from traveling through the wand for a more hygienic design. Floors were left looking clean during real-world use, making it an excellent option for homes without a dedicated hard floor cleaner. However, it is not designed to vacuum and mop simultaneously. During testing, it pushed larger debris such as catnip instead of collecting it, so vacuuming first is recommended. The internal dirty water compartment can spill if the head is tilted excessively, and because there is no self-cleaning cycle, the mop components must be rinsed after every use to prevent odors and residue. Despite these limitations, it earned Vacuum Wars’ top cordless vacuum ranking. See additional info

Our Best Budget cordless vacuum provides useful cordless convenience and solid basic cleaning performance at a lower price point.

The KARDV V06 cordless vacuum stood out as an excellent budget option, outperforming the Tikom V500 to become Vacuum Wars’ top cordless pick under $100. Usually selling between $90 and $100, it offers strong carpet cleaning performance with a 94% deep-clean score, above the 93% category average and better than the V500’s 89%. It also delivered excellent debris pickup on carpets, 36 CFM airflow at the floor head, a lightweight 1,386-gram handle, and over 20 minutes of runtime on max power, far above the 14-minute cordless average. Its battery efficiency score of 19.44 also exceeded the 15.9 average. Additional strengths include a detachable battery, wall-mounted charging dock, three attachments, bright green LED headlights, a large 1,500 mL dust bin, and an active hair removal system that performed around average in testing. However, filtration was a major weakness, failing the fog test with noticeable exhaust leakage. It also struggled with large debris on hard floors, measured only 32 minutes on low power instead of the claimed 60, produced 79 dB of noise, and lacked a precise battery time readout. Despite those flaws, its overall value and features remain highly competitive today. See additional info

Upright Vacuums

Upright vacuums are usually best for homes with a lot of carpet or larger floor areas. They typically offer strong carpet agitation, larger dust bins, and corded power for longer cleaning sessions. Many upright vacuums also include hoses and attachments for above-floor cleaning.

Best for: carpet-heavy homes, larger homes, deep carpet pickup, longer cleaning sessions, users who prefer corded power

Not ideal for: compact storage, quick handheld use, users who want the lightest possible vacuum

This is our Best Overall upright vacuum because it offers the strongest combination of carpet cleaning performance, hard floor capability, filtration, attachments, and overall usability in the category.

Carpet Cleaners

Carpet cleaners are designed to wash larger carpeted areas using water, cleaning solution, brush agitation, and suction. They are different from standard vacuums because they clean with liquid and extract dirty water into a separate tank. They are useful for homes with carpets, area rugs, pets, kids, or recurring stains.

Best for: full-room carpet cleaning, larger carpeted areas, area rugs, pet households, periodic deep cleaning

Not ideal for: dry vacuuming, hard floor maintenance, small upholstery-only jobs, quick daily cleanup

This is our Best Overall carpet cleaner because it offers the strongest combination of stain cleaning, water extraction, brush performance, tank design, usability, and full-room cleaning ability in the category.

The Shark CarpetXpert EX151 is a lightweight hybrid carpet cleaner designed to balance performance and value, and testing showed it largely succeeds. It weighs just 15.9 pounds, making it easier to maneuver than the roughly 20-pound category average, and features strong ergonomics, a 25-foot cord, and a convenient built-in hose system for spot cleaning, stairs, and upholstery without extra setup. Attachments like the reversible bristle tool, wide path tool, and integrated crevice tool add versatility. In testing, it delivered above-average unsealed suction at the floor head and excellent stain removal, scoring near the top in a controlled grape juice stain test using timed passes and color measurement. However, there are downsides: its small 0.6-gallon water tank requires frequent refills on larger jobs, the 5-foot hose is shorter than average, and sealed hose suction tested slightly below average. Despite these issues, it ranked highly overall, offering near-flagship cleaning performance at a lower price, making it a strong value pick for users wanting effective cleaning, easy handling, and solid test-proven results. This combination of performance metrics and usability features helped it secure a top-three ranking among tested carpet cleaners in recent evaluations. See additional info

Our Best Budget carpet cleaner keeps the price lower while still offering the core cleaning and extraction performance needed for periodic carpet washing.

The Bissell TurboClean Pet XL 3746 stands out as a strong value carpet cleaner, retailing around $160—roughly half the cost of flagship models—while outperforming many budget competitors with features like a 7-foot hose for above-floor cleaning and a versatile 3-in-1 tough stain tool. It has a one-gallon clean and dirty water tank, reducing refill frequency compared to similarly priced units, and weighs just 16.5 pounds, making it lighter and easier to maneuver than average. A 20-foot cord provides decent range, and its four-row DeepReach brush contributes to solid cleaning results. In testing, it achieved an average stain removal score on a standardized grape juice test—impressive given that it competed against over 30 models, including much more expensive machines. However, its 6-amp motor delivers below-average suction in both sealed and unsealed tests, which could impact performance on heavily embedded dirt. Despite this, it ranked 9th overall, offering excellent performance and features for the price. See additional info

How to Use This Page

This page is meant to help you quickly compare the top Vacuum Wars picks across major vacuum cleaner categories. If you already know what type of vacuum you need, jump directly to that category. If you are still deciding, start with the “Which Type of Vacuum Cleaner Do You Need?” table below.

For deeper comparisons, visit the full rankings linked in each category section. Those pages include more products, more category-specific context, and additional testing details.

Which Type of Vacuum Cleaner Do You Need?

Different vacuum categories solve different cleaning problems. A robot vacuum is useful for automated maintenance cleaning, while an upright vacuum is usually better for deeper carpet cleaning. A cordless vacuum is often the most convenient whole-home option, while handheld vacuums and portable spot cleaners are designed for smaller, more targeted jobs.

FAQ

What is the best vacuum cleaner type for most homes?

For many homes, a cordless vacuum is the most versatile manual cleaning option because it can handle floors, stairs, furniture, and quick cleanups without a cord. However, the best category depends on the home. Robot vacuums are better for automated daily maintenance, upright vacuums are often better for deep carpet cleaning, and hard floor cleaners are better for wet cleaning sealed hard floors.

What is the difference between Best Value and Best Budget?

Best Value is based on the strongest balance of performance, features, price, and overall ownership proposition. Best Budget is the lower-cost option we would still recommend, even if it does not offer the same performance or feature set as higher-ranked models.

How often does Vacuum Wars update these picks?

We update this page weekly. Picks may change when we test new products, update category rankings, find meaningful pricing changes, or see changes in availability.

Do Vacuum Wars rankings change when prices change?

They can. Price is especially important for Best Value and Best Budget picks. A product may become more or less competitive when its price changes, even if its test results remain the same.

Are robot vacuums a replacement for upright or cordless vacuums?

Robot vacuums are useful for automated maintenance cleaning, but they are not a complete replacement for every home. Most users will still want a manual vacuum for stairs, furniture, cars, deep carpet cleaning, and larger debris.

What is the difference between a carpet cleaner and a portable spot cleaner?

A carpet cleaner is designed for washing larger carpeted areas and full rooms. A portable spot cleaner is designed for smaller targeted jobs, such as stains, upholstery, stairs, pet accidents, and car interiors.

Why do some categories have different scoring priorities?

Each vacuum category is designed for a different cleaning job. Robot vacuums are judged heavily on navigation, automation, obstacle avoidance, pickup, and mopping features when relevant. Upright and cordless vacuums place more emphasis on manual cleaning performance, usability, power, filtration, attachments, and surface-specific results. Carpet cleaners and spot cleaners are evaluated around wet cleaning performance, extraction, tank design, usability, and stain-cleaning ability.
