Dyson Releases V16 Piston Animal, Its Most Powerful Cordless Vacuum to Date

Dyson has officially launched their newest latest flagship cordless vacuum lineup, the Dyson V16 Piston Animal series. The launch includes both the standard Dyson V16 Piston Animal and the wet-and-dry Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine.

The V16 platform was first unveiled by Dyson last year at their Dyson Unveiled event, with the company positioning it as its most powerful cordless vacuum platform to date. Now that the products have reached retail availability, consumers can purchase the new models, which introduce several notable technologies, including a redesigned dual-conical cleaner head, a dust-compressing bin system, and a new 900-watt motor.

The Dyson V16 Piston Animal is Dyson’s latest flagship cordless vacuum, delivering outstanding cleaning performance, premium features, and several meaningful refinements over previous generations. It includes the new All Floor Cones cleaner head with dual anti-tangle brush rolls, an adjustable gate for different floor types, green laser dust illumination, a dedicated Laser Slim Fluffy hard floor head, a motorized anti-tangle upholstery tool, crevice tool, wall-mounted charging dock, removable battery, and a real-time LCD display showing remaining runtime and live particle counts. In testing, it earned a perfect 100% carpet deep-clean score, a perfect crevice pickup score, above-average sealed and unsealed suction, powerful airflow, a maximum runtime of 70 minutes, 15.3 minutes on Max mode with the cleaner head attached, excellent battery efficiency, and flawless HEPA filtration with no leaks during fog testing. Its redesigned above-average-capacity dustbin features a two-stage emptying system that compacts debris and keeps the bin cleaner. Downsides include the need to swap cleaner heads for optimal hard floor and carpet performance, no included dusting brush, slightly below-average 14-inch hair-tangle results compared with earlier Dyson models, and a handheld design that could benefit from a flexible hose attachment. The Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine combines Dyson’s flagship cordless vacuum with the Submarine 2.0 wet-cleaning head, adding dedicated hard floor mopping without sacrificing the vacuum’s excellent cleaning performance. In testing, it matched the standard V16 in vacuuming ability while delivering above-average results in dried-on stain removal, outperforming both the Dyson WashG1 and Dyson’s newer hygiene-focused floor cleaner. The Submarine head automatically recognizes when attached, offers two water flow settings, and keeps the entire wet-cleaning system inside the head, preventing dirty water from traveling through the wand for a more hygienic design. Floors were left looking clean during real-world use, making it an excellent option for homes without a dedicated hard floor cleaner. However, it is not designed to vacuum and mop simultaneously. During testing, it pushed larger debris such as catnip instead of collecting it, so vacuuming first is recommended. The internal dirty water compartment can spill if the head is tilted excessively, and because there is no self-cleaning cycle, the mop components must be rinsed after every use to prevent odors and residue. Despite these limitations, it earned Vacuum Wars’ top cordless vacuum ranking. See additional info

A New Flagship Cordless Vacuum

According to Dyson, the V16 Piston Animal is powered by a new Hyperdymium™ 900W motor capable of generating up to 315 air watts of suction in Boost mode. The company says this makes it the most powerful anti-tangle cordless vacuum in its lineup.

The new motor is paired with what Dyson calls Dynamic Cyclone technology, which activates additional cyclones in Boost mode to increase suction when needed.

Dyson also claims the vacuum provides up to 70 minutes of runtime from its seven-cell lithium-ion battery, with a swappable battery system available for extended cleaning sessions.

New All Floor Cones™ Sense Cleaner Head

Perhaps the most significant change to the V16 platform is the introduction of Dyson’s All Floor Cones™ Sense cleaner head.

Unlike traditional cordless vacuum brush rolls, the new cleaner head uses two conical brush bars designed to move hair toward the narrower ends of the cones before directing it into the vacuum’s bin. Dyson says this design allows the cleaner head to eject even long hair directly into the dust bin, reducing the need to manually remove tangled hair from the brush roll.

The cleaner head also combines several functions previously handled by separate attachments. Dyson says it can automatically adjust both suction power and brush bar speed based on floor type, slowing the brush roll on hard floors and increasing agitation on carpets. LED illumination is integrated into the cleaner head to help reveal dust and debris during cleaning.

New CleanCompaktor™ Bin System

Another notable addition is Dyson’s new CleanCompaktor™ bin. The system compresses collected debris inside the dust bin, which Dyson says allows it to hold up to three times more dust and debris than a conventional bin design. The company claims the compressed storage capacity can accommodate up to 30 days of dust under normal household use.

The bin also incorporates a new wipe-clean emptying mechanism that cleans interior surfaces as the bin is emptied, a feature Dyson says helps prevent dust and hair from remaining inside the container.

Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine

Joining the standard model is the Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine, which adds wet floor cleaning capabilities. The Submarine version includes Dyson’s upgraded Submarine™ 2.0 wet roller head, designed to tackle hard-floor spills and dried-on messes using a combination of hydration, agitation, and extraction. The system includes a 300ml clean-water tank that Dyson says can cover up to 1,180 square feet of flooring.

The Submarine 2.0 cleaner head also features adjustable hydration settings and a Boost mode intended for more stubborn stains.

In addition to the wet-cleaning attachment, the Submarine package includes Dyson’s Fluffy Optic cleaner head and the new All Floor Cones™ Sense cleaner head.

Filtration, Connectivity, and Accessories

The V16 lineup features a fully sealed five-stage HEPA filtration system. Dyson states that the system captures 99.99% of particles as small as 0.1 microns.

Additional features include:

  • LCD display with real-time cleaning information
  • MyDyson™ app connectivity
  • Maintenance alerts and filter-cleaning guidance
  • Hidden onboard tools
  • New remote-release cleaner head mechanism
  • Hair Screw Tool 2.0
  • Crevice Tool 2.0
  • Wall dock charging system

Dyson has also announced plans for a future self-emptying docking station compatible with the V16 platform. According to the company, the dock will feature a 2.5-liter capacity capable of storing up to 60 days of dust.

Pricing and Availability

At the time of these releases, the Dyson V16 Piston Animal is now available with a retail price of $979.99, and the Dyson V16 Piston Animal Submarine is also available and is currently listed at $1,099.99. Both models are available through Dyson, Amazon, and other online retailers.

Vacuum Wars has not yet independently tested the Dyson V16 Piston Animal lineup. As always, manufacturer performance claims should be considered preliminary until third-party testing can verify real-world performance.
