One notable addition this month is the Dyson V9 Motorbar, which enters our database positioned between the premium and value tiers. While it presents an interesting option at that price point, it did not deliver enough in either performance or features to displace the Dyson V15 Detect as our Best Overall pick, nor did it offer enough value to replace the Shark Stratos in the Value category.

As a result, the May 2026 rankings remain unchanged. The Dyson V15 Detect continues to lead as our Best Overall cordless vacuum, with consistently high scores across all testing categories. The Shark Stratos earns the Best Value spot, offering one of the strongest combinations of cleaning performance and price, with top-tier results on both carpet and hard floors. On the budget end, the Levoit LVAC stands out as a well-rounded option with strong versatility and consistently positive consumer feedback.

Recent additions to our testing database, including the Dyson V9 Motorbar, were evaluated against our current top picks and did not outperform them. This reinforces an important point: the leading models in each category continue to hold their positions because their performance advantages are consistent and difficult to surpass.

In the premium tier, Dyson maintains a clear lead. The V15 Detect remains our Best Overall pick—not because it’s the newest model, but because it continues to deliver strong, well-rounded performance across all major testing categories. Its combination of cleaning power, features, and reliability keeps it competitive even as newer models enter the market.

The value category remains one of the most competitive segments, particularly among Shark cordless vacuums. While several models perform well in our testing, the Shark Stratos continues to stand out for its balance of cleaning performance and price, with strong results on both hard floors and carpets.

At the budget level, the category continues to improve overall, even without a change in the top position. Models like the Levoit LVAC demonstrate how far this segment has progressed, offering solid cleaning performance, HEPA filtration, and versatile attachments at a lower price point.

The Dyson V15 Detect remains the number one overall cordless vacuum on the Vacuum Wars Best Cordless Vacuums list, and it earned that position by delivering consistently high scores across nearly every testing category. Its combination of strong suction power, advanced sensor-based automation, and a well-rounded feature set allows it to perform at a premium level without introducing major trade-offs.

Features (V15 Detect: 4.24 vs Avg: 1.85)

With a features score of 4.24, the V15 Detect ranks among the top performers in the Vacuum Wars dataset, behind only the Shark PowerDetect Clean and Empty with its automated maintenance station (see our review) and two ultra-premium Dyson models – the Dyson Gen5 Outsize (see our review) and the V15 Submarine (see our review).

The V15 Detect is driven by an intelligent automation and real-time feedback system. The LCD screen displays particle counts, battery life, and maintenance alerts, giving users clear visibility into cleaning performance. The automatic suction adjustment reduces unnecessary power draw on lighter debris while ramping up when needed, improving overall battery efficiency without sacrificing cleaning results.

One of the defining features of the V15 Detect is its laser dust detection system, which uses a green laser on the Fluffy cleaner head to illuminate fine debris on hard floors. It produced 112 inches of sealed suction at the hose, compared to 92 inches for the Dyson V9 Motorbar. The V15 also generated strong airflow at both the hose and cleaner head, translating to effective real-world performance across a variety of surfaces.

These metrics place it well above average for cordless vacuums in our database and, in some cases, closer to the lower range of corded upright performance. Its combination of high suction and efficient airflow is a key factor behind its strong results in both carpet deep cleaning and hard floor pickup tests.

Among cordless models, only other Dyson platforms, such as the Gen5 series (see our review), reach similar performance levels. However, the Gen5 line loses some points in our scoring system due to increased weight and a more limited set of included attachments.

The Dyson V15 Detect offers solid battery performance for a high-powered cordless vacuum, with a runtime of up to 60 minutes in Eco mode under ideal conditions. In our testing, actual runtime varies depending on power setting and floor type, with shorter durations in Auto or Boost modes—especially on carpet, where higher suction is required.

With automatic suction adjustment, the V15 can extend runtime in lower-demand scenarios while still delivering increased power when needed. This dynamic scaling helps it cover more area per charge than many fixed-power competitors.

The detachable battery design is a notable advantage, allowing users to extend total runtime by keeping a second battery on hand. Overall, its battery performance is competitive within the premium category, balancing strong power output with usable runtime for most whole-home cleaning tasks.

As expected, higher suction modes reduce runtime significantly. While some competitors may advertise longer maximum runtimes, they often achieve this at lower sustained power levels.

While Dyson is well known for battery efficiency, a few non-Dyson models perform similarly in this category. The Shark Stratos (see our review) scores 3.99, and the Shark PowerDetect (see our review) scores 3.85. Both also feature detachable battery systems.

Hard Floor (V15 Detect: 3.70 vs Avg: 1.91)

The Dyson V15 Detect delivers excellent hard floor performance, combining strong suction with specialized design features that improve both visibility and pickup. Its Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head uses a green laser to illuminate fine dust that would otherwise be missed, while an onboard particle sensor automatically adjusts suction based on debris levels for more efficient cleaning. In testing, it was able to remove everything from fine particles to larger debris in a single pass without scattering, aided by its high suction power and well-sealed floorhead. Overall, its hard floor performance stands out not just for raw pickup ability, but for how effectively it helps users identify and remove hidden debris, resulting in a more thorough clean.

Interestingly, certain Shark cordless vacuums we have evaluated have performed slightly better on hard floors than the Dyson V15. This includes the Shark Vertex (see our review) with 4.50 stars, Shark Stratos (see our review) with 4.50 stars, and the Shark PowerDetect (see our review) with 4.0 stars. We tend to attribute this strong performance to the brand’s DuoClean rollers.

Carpet (V15 Detect: 4.56 vs Avg: 3.7)

The Dyson V15 Detect delivers excellent carpet performance, driven by its high suction power and effective brushroll design. In testing, it achieved a top-tier carpet score, excelling in both surface debris pickup and deep cleaning. In our Carpet Deep Clean test, it removed 100 percent of the dirt embedded in carpet fibers.

Its Digital Motorbar cleaner head provides strong agitation and maintains a good balance across different carpet types, allowing it to handle everything from fine dust to larger debris in a single pass. Overall, its combination of power and brushroll efficiency makes it one of the strongest cordless options for carpet cleaning, with performance that consistently exceeds the average in its category.

The same Shark cordless vacuums we have evaluated have also performed slightly better on carpet than the Dyson V15. This includes the Shark Stratos (see our review) and the Shark PowerDetect (see our review) – both with 4.80 stars. Again, we tend to attribute this strong performance to the brand’s DuoClean rollers.

Attachments (V15 Detect: 2.48 vs Avg: 1.31)

The Dyson V15 Detect comes with a well-rounded set of attachments designed to extend its cleaning performance beyond floors, making it highly versatile for whole-home use. Standard tools typically include the Digital Motorbar cleaner head for carpets and multi-surface cleaning, the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaner head for hard floors with dust illumination, and several above-floor accessories like a crevice tool, combination tool, and a mini motorized (Hair Screw) tool for upholstery and pet hair.

Additional accessories such as soft dusting brushes or extension adapters may be included depending on the package. These attachments are engineered to target specific cleaning tasks—from tight crevices to delicate surfaces—allowing the V15 to function as both a primary floor vacuum and a detailed cleaning system for furniture, stairs, and hard-to-reach areas.

Usability and Maintenance

The V15 Detect is designed with usability in mind, featuring a relatively lightweight form factor for its power class and a point-and-shoot bin emptying system. Its handle weight is 2,069 grams, making it heavier than the Dyson V9 Motorbar at 1,229 grams, though still relatively manageable for its power class. Maintenance is straightforward, with washable filters and a sealed system that effectively captures fine dust.

The Dyson V15 Detect holds the top spot because it delivers elite performance without meaningful weaknesses. Best Value Cordless Vacuum: Shark Stratos

Why the Stratos Made the List

The Best Value pick is the highest-scoring cordless vacuum between $200 and $600 on the Vacuum Wars Top 10. For May 2026, the Shark Stratos is our choice for the second month running, with a score of 4.20 and a current price of $413.00. The Stratos has remained a top-performing Shark cordless model in our database since its release.

At roughly $300 less than the Dyson V15 Detect, it actually scored higher in debris pickup on both hard floors and carpet, though it lagged slightly behind in battery performance. Its closest competitors are also Shark cordless vacuums, including the Shark PowerDetect (see our review) and the Shark Vertex Pro (see our review), both of which feature DuoClean floorheads and HEPA filtration.

A new close competitor this month was the Dyson V9 Motorbar (full review coming soon), which delivered excellent suction power and one of the lightest handle weights in the category. In our testing, the V9 Motorbar achieved 92 inches of sealed suction compared to 76 for the Stratos, while also offering strong carpet deep-clean performance and perfect hair tangle prevention scores. However, the Shark Stratos ultimately secured the Best Value position due to its stronger hard floor pickup performance, larger dustbin capacity, and longer battery life—particularly on lower power settings. The Stratos also matched the Dyson in carpet deep cleaning while offering a more feature-rich overall package for the price.

Features (Stratos: 3.94 vs Avg: 1.85)

In terms of features, the Shark Stratos Cordless stands out as a highly feature-rich system, combining both practical and “smart” technologies to enhance usability. Its Clean Sense IQ automatically adjusts suction based on detected dirt levels, while the DuoClean dual brushroll system with anti-hair-wrap improves performance across surfaces and reduces maintenance.

Additional convenience features like a MultiFlex wand for under-furniture cleaning and compact storage, a removable battery with digital runtime display, LED headlights, HEPA filtration, and an odor neutralizer system round out the package, making it one of the more advanced and well-equipped cordless vacuums in its category.

This strong suction translated into consistently high cleaning results, including a perfect carpet deep-clean score and excellent overall debris removal. In crevice pickup specifically, its combination of power and well-designed floorhead allowed it to effectively pull debris from edges and tight spaces, contributing to its above-average performance rating in that category.

Battery Performance (Stratos: 3.99 vs Avg: 2.4)

In battery testing, the Shark Stratos Cordless delivered solid but not class-leading results, with runtime varying depending on the power mode used. It provided a respectable cleaning window on standard settings, suitable for typical home use, though higher power modes reduced runtime more quickly. Overall, its battery performance was good and consistent, but more in line with expectations for a high-powered cordless rather than a standout category leader.

It’s notable that among all of the Shark cordless stick vacuums, the Stratos has the highest battery life score – including the Shark PowerDetect (see our review) and the Shark Vertex Pro (see our review),

Hard Floor (Stratos: 4.0 vs Avg: 1.91)

On hard floors, the Shark Stratos Cordless continued to perform exceptionally well, with its strong suction and DuoClean dual brushroll system allowing it to pick up both fine debris and larger particles efficiently. It handled common test materials with minimal scatter while maintaining consistent contact with the floor for thorough cleaning. Overall, its hard floor performance ranked among the top cordless models we evaluated, contributing significantly to its high overall Performance score.

One close competitor in this category was the Dyson V9 Motorbar, which delivered substantially stronger sealed suction at 92 inches compared to 76 inches for the Stratos. However, despite its impressive suction power and lightweight design, the V9 Motorbar fell behind the Stratos in our hard floor pickup evaluations, scoring 2 stars compared to the Stratos’ 5-star performance. We tend to attribute the Stratos’ advantage here to Shark’s DuoClean floorhead system, which consistently performs well in our hard floor testing.

Another close competitor for hard floor debris pickup is the Hoover ONEPWR Emerge Pet (see our review), with a 3.80 score. It also features a two-roller brushroll system similar to Shark’s DuoClean technology, which has consistently performed strongly in our evaluations.

Carpet (Stratos: 4.50 vs Avg: 3.7)

In carpet cleaning tests, the Shark Stratos Cordless performed at a very high level, benefiting from its strong suction and effective brushroll design. It achieved a perfect score in deep carpet pickup, demonstrating an ability to extract embedded debris rather than just surface-level dirt. This places it among the top performers in the cordless category for carpet, showing performance that begins to approach that of some corded uprights, such as the Shark Stratos upright vacuum (see our review).

Attachments (Stratos: 0.83 vs Avg: 1.31)

In terms of attachments, the Shark Stratos cordless includes a modest set of tools designed to extend its versatility beyond floors. It includes a duster and crevice tool and anti-allergen brush both of which performed effectively in above-floor cleaning tasks like furniture, stairs, and tight spaces. While not the most extensive attachment package in its class, the included tools are practical and well-suited to the vacuum’s strong suction, contributing positively to its overall usability.

Best Budget Cordless Vacuum: Levoit LVAC-200

The budget cordless vacuum category remained relatively stable for May 2026, with no newly evaluated models outperforming the Levoit LVAC-200 in overall value. While several budget vacuums continue to compete closely in specific categories, the LVAC-200 maintains one of the strongest balances of cleaning performance, filtration, usability, and price in the segment.

This category continues to improve overall, however, with more budget cordless vacuums offering features like removable batteries, sealed filtration, and anti-tangle brushrolls that were previously uncommon at lower price points. Even so, the LVAC-200 remains one of the most well-rounded options we’ve tested at this price tier.

One of the main reasons for its placement is its strong core cleaning ability. In our testing, the LVAC-200 performed above average in debris pickup on both hard floors and carpet, including solid results in carpet deep cleaning. This is notable in the budget category, where many models struggle with embedded debris or fine dust. Its brushroll design also incorporates anti-tangle features, which performed well in reducing hair wrap during testing.

Features (LVAC-200: 1.68 vs Avg: 1.85)

The LVAC-200 offers a practical feature set that exceeds expectations for its price range. It includes a sealed filtration system with HEPA filtration, a feature more commonly associated with higher-end models and likely influenced by Levoit’s background in air purification. This contributes to improved dust containment and air quality during operation.

Additional features include a removable battery, multiple attachments for above-floor cleaning, and a lightweight, maneuverable design. The LVAC-200 achieved above-average results across our standard tests, particularly on hard floors where it handled both fine debris and larger particles effectively. On carpet, it performed better than many budget competitors, maintaining consistent pickup even with embedded debris.

While it does not reach the performance levels of the midrange or premium cordless vacuums mentioned above, it closes the gap with midrange models more than expected at this price point, making it a viable option for whole-home cleaning in smaller to medium-sized spaces.

Battery Performance (LVAC-200: 2.63 vs Avg: 2.98)

Battery life is in line with expectations for the category. The LVAC-200 provides sufficient runtime for typical cleaning tasks, especially in standard power mode. For comparison, a similarly priced model, the Bissell CleanView XR Pet (see our review), achieved a score of 2.87 in this category. Higher power settings will reduce runtime, but this is consistent with most cordless vacuums.

The inclusion of a removable battery adds flexibility, allowing users to extend runtime with a second battery if needed—something not always available in this price range.

Also in this price range, the Smoture VAC01 (see our review) delivers strong battery performance but its user reviews have declined over time, causing it to come down in our rankings.

Hard Floor (LVAC-200: 2.20 vs Avg: 1.91)

The Levoit LVAC-200 delivers above-average hard floor performance for its price, with a floorhead design that effectively handles a wide range of debris without common issues like snowplowing or clogging. Its inclusion of a felt squeegee and active hair removal features helps it maintain consistent contact with hard surfaces while managing fine dust and larger particles efficiently.

Another budget option in this category is the Bissell CleanView XR Pet (see our review) with a Hard Floor score of 2.40. This model does not have consistent user reviews however, and its price has a tendency to go up and down, so keep an eye out for sales if this cordless vacuum is appealing to you.

Carpet (LVAC-200: 3.71 vs Avg: 3.7)

On carpet, the Levoit LVAC-200 performs slightly above average in Vacuum Wars testing, earning a carpet score of 3.71 compared to the cordless vacuum average of 3.7. Its floorhead design creates a good seal on carpet surfaces, allowing it to handle embedded debris effectively while still maintaining consistent airflow. It also benefits from features like active hair removal, which helps reduce tangling and maintain performance over time. In practical testing, it handled a variety of debris types without clogging or loss of suction, indicating solid real-world usability—particularly for low- to medium-pile carpets at this price point.

A surprising carpet performance in this price range is the Tineco Pure ONE S11 (see our review) with a score of 4.58. This model also can be on the high side of the budget range, and the user reviews have dropped below 4 stars on Amazon.

Attachments (LVAC-200: 1.24 vs Avg: 1.31)

The Levoit LVAC-200 does not come with a groundbreaking attachment set, but the basics are there with a 2-in-1 crevice tool and an upholstery brush for handheld, above-floor cleaning. There’s also a bright LED light on the vacuuming floorhead, which is a good addition on a budget-priced vacuum.

The Levoit Aero cordless vacuum and station (see our review) is stacked with a full set of attachments and an attachment score of 3.86. It is not a budget-range model, but the Aero is the brand’s current flagship vacuum, complete with a docking station and Levoit’s brand-recognition in the air purification market.

Usability and Maintenance

The LVAC-200 is lightweight and easy to maneuver, making it well-suited for quick cleanups and multi-surface use. Its ability to stand upright on its own is a practical advantage that improves storage and convenience, especially in smaller spaces.

Maintenance is straightforward, with an easy-to-empty dustbin and washable filters. The sealed system also helps reduce dust leakage, which is not always guaranteed in budget models.
