Bissell CleanView XR Pet
The Bissell CleanView XR is available in two packages, XR and XR Pet. While they look almost identical except for the color, this Bissell CleanView XR review will focus on the XR Pet version (purple), which at this time offers more power and better attachments for nearly the same price as the XR.
The XR Pet features three power settings: low, medium, and max power. You can easily change these settings with a button on the back of the handle, which also displays the battery life with LED lights.
Bissell CleanView XR Pet review: evaluation and performance
We evaluated it in various real-world situations, and the Bissell CleanView XR Pet performed really well. Let’s examine its capabilities more closely.
Power
The Bissell CleanView XR Pet offers impressive power, especially considering its price. Its sealed suction measures 99 inches, significantly higher than the average for cordless vacuums at any price point.
In comparison, the Dyson V8 only reaches 77 inches. The XR Pet also excels in other power metrics, including airflow and unsealed suction evaluations, consistently outperforming the Dyson V8 and exceeding average expectations.
Carpet deep clean
The CleanView XR Pet’s power is also evident in practical applications, performing above average in our carpet deep clean evaluation. This is where we embed sand into medium pile carpets and weigh the bins before and after a set number of passes on max power. It also outperformed the Dyson V8.
This exceptional performance could possibly be attributed to its floorhead design, which features one large gate, six smaller gates, and felt squeegees around the perimeter. These elements create an effective seal on both hard floors and carpets, enhancing cleaning efficiency.
Debris pick up
As far as pick-up ability, the Bissell CleanView XR Pet did very well in our evaluations. It effortlessly removed debris from all crevices in our crevice pick up test, and it performed particularly well on carpets, achieving near-perfect results, picking up everything from super fine to extra-large debris.
On hard floors, the cordless vacuum’s performance was also good for most debris sizes. However, it struggled with Cheerios-sized debris in our evaluations, causing the floorhead to snowplow. This issue is also present with the Dyson V8’s head.
Also, for our debris pickup score, which quantifies pickup efficiency, the Bissell CleanView XR Pet outperformed the Dyson V8.
Bissell CleanView XR features
Attachment set
One significant advantage of the Bissell CleanView XR Pet is its comprehensive attachment set. It includes a dusting brush/upholstery tool combo, an additional dusting brush, a crevice tool, and a motorized brush designed for cleaning upholstery or pet hair.
All attachments are well-built and performed flawlessly in our tests.
Ease of use
The Bissell CleanView XR Pet was very user-friendly. It has a OneTouch trigger, eliminating the need to hold it down continuously, unlike the Dyson and some other cordless vacuums.
The weight is about average, but its ergonomics are notably excellent. The swivel mechanism on the floorhead responds well to wrist movements in tight spaces, even on thick carpets. Additionally, the handle’s well-balanced center of gravity makes it ideal for handheld tasks.
Cons of the Bissell CleanView XR
While the Bissell CleanView XR Pet is a great cordless vacuum, there are some potential drawbacks.
Bin size
The CleanView XR Pet bin size is smaller than average, at just 300 ml. Emptying the bin requires a three-step process: removing the wand, partially ejecting the bin with a button, and opening the bin door with another button. This process may take some getting used to, even though you can also physically remove the bin to clean or change the filter.
Filtration
Its filtration was decent for a budget cordless vacuum but doesn’t match the Dyson V8’s performance. As demonstrated in our fog evaluations, the V8 features a more sealed system, providing superior filtration.
Price
For us, the biggest standout of the XR Pet is its price. The cordless vacuum is among the highest-scoring ones we’ve evaluated in this price range, making it an excellent value for just about any household.
Vacuum Wars
It’s no surprise it’s selling so well, given its high performance and affordability.
