BISSELL has introduced a new upright carpet cleaner in the U.S., the Revolution ExpressClean, model 4499. The new machine joins BISSELL’s long-running Revolution lineup with an emphasis on faster drying, pet-mess cleanup, and easier maintenance.
The Revolution ExpressClean appears to sit below BISSELL’s premium Revolution HydroSteam Pet carpet cleaner and may appeal to shoppers who want a full-size carpet cleaner without moving into the company’s higher-priced models.
BISSELL Revolution ExpressClean
The BISSELL Revolution ExpressClean (model 4499) is an upright carpet cleaner with Max Clean and Express Clean modes. BISSELL says Express Clean can leave carpet dry in about 30 minutes under its stated test conditions; drying time may vary. A 7-foot hose and stain tool handle stairs, upholstery, and pet beds. After use, the Clean Out Cycle works with the included rinse and storage tray and FreshStart solution to flush the machine. The antimicrobial brush roll is designed to resist odors from pet messes. Two Cleaning Modes and a 30-Minute Dry-Time Claim
The Revolution ExpressClean includes two primary cleaning modes.
Max Clean Mode is intended for deeper cleaning, combining the machine’s brush agitation, suction, and BISSELL cleaning solution to remove embedded dirt and debris from carpet.
For routine cleaning, Express Clean Mode is designed to shorten drying time. BISSELL says carpets can dry in about 30 minutes when using this mode, although the company notes that the claim is based on testing with new carpet containing protectant and that results can vary.
Cleaning is handled by BISSELL’s XL DirtLifter PowerBrush, and the machine has an 11-inch cleaning path.
A New Self-Cleaning System
One of the more notable additions is a built-in clean-out process for maintaining the carpet cleaner itself.
The Revolution ExpressClean includes a Rinse & Storage Tray along with BISSELL FreshStart cleaning solution. After cleaning, owners can place the machine on the tray and run its Clean Out Cycle, which flushes the internal cleaning path to help remove leftover debris and residue.
Maintenance has traditionally been one of the less convenient parts of owning an upright carpet cleaner, particularly after cleaning pet messes, so the effectiveness of this system could be one of the more interesting aspects of the new model.
Designed With Pet Messes in Mind
BISSELL is positioning the Revolution ExpressClean heavily toward pet owners. The company gives the model its Pet Proven designation and says it is designed to tackle pet stains, odors, fur, and everyday carpet dirt.
The machine weighs 18 pounds and has separate 1-gallon clean- and dirty-water tanks, along with a 20-foot power cord.
BISSELL also includes a hose and handheld cleaning accessories so the upright can be used for stairs, upholstery, pet beds, and localized stains. Included accessories listed by BISSELL include a self-cleaning 2-in-1 Tough Stain Tool, spraying crevice tool, nozzle clean-out tool, and the rinse and storage tray.
Where the Revolution ExpressClean Fits in BISSELL’s Lineup
At its current price, the Revolution ExpressClean occupies an interesting position in BISSELL’s current carpet-cleaner lineup. It is considerably less expensive than the Revolution HydroSteam Pet (see our review), while retaining the full-size upright design and adding features such as the dedicated clean-out cycle.
The tradeoff is that the ExpressClean does not include the HydroSteam system found on BISSELL’s premium model. Instead, its focus is more straightforward: conventional deep carpet cleaning, faster maintenance cleaning, and easier cleanup afterward.
That distinction may make the ExpressClean particularly relevant for households that regularly clean larger carpeted areas but do not necessarily need the additional steam-cleaning capabilities of BISSELL’s flagship machines.
