At IFA 2026 in Berlin, we saw one of iRobot’s most unusual floor-care ideas yet. The Roomba Duo is a two-robot concept that pairs a large vacuum-and-floor-washing unit with a much smaller companion robot. The main robot is designed for open areas and heavier wet-dry cleaning. When it reaches a space it cannot enter, a top-mounted mechanical arm can lower the compact robot to the floor so it can clean beneath furniture and through narrow gaps. The two units share a map and are intended to coordinate as one system.
A Roomba that carries another Roomba
The defining feature is the mechanical deployment arm on top of the larger robot. iRobot says the end of the arm remains level as it moves, helping stabilize the companion robot while it is being carried, lowered, and released.
Instead of asking one machine to fit under every bed while also carrying a large battery, water system, and stronger floor-washing hardware, Roomba Duo splits those jobs between two specialized designs. The main unit handles larger open areas; the compact robot targets the places the larger body cannot reach.
Large 17-centimeter wheels with hub motors support the main robot as it moves between rooms while carrying the additional hardware and companion unit.

The main robot combines vacuuming, steam, and a roller mop
The cylindrical main unit has more internal volume than a typical low-profile robot vacuum. iRobot uses that space for a wet-dry floor-washing system, a larger motor, and a higher-capacity battery.
Its 60-millimeter PowerSpin Max roller mop applies a claimed 46 newtons of downward pressure, or roughly 4.7 kilograms of force. Before the roller passes over a difficult spot, an internal heater can distribute controlled steam to loosen dried-on grime.
A continuously self-cleaning roller then washes the area, while a hot-air component behind the roller helps dry the surface. iRobot says this is intended to reduce the amount of time wood floors remain wet. The company did not publish a specific suction figure for the main robot in its announcement.
The companion’s PerfectEdge mop pad can extend outward by up to 31 millimeters, and an extending side brush targets edges and corners. iRobot also says its air-lift omni-wheels can cross thresholds up to 3.5 centimeters high.
Shared mapping and coordinated cleaning
Both robots use ClearView Pro dual-line LiDAR and PrecisionVision AI for mapping, navigation, and object detection. The main unit adds top-mounted AI cameras to provide a higher view of furniture and room layouts.
According to iRobot, that elevated perspective can help the system build more detailed maps in larger homes and locate larger spills or concentrated debris for targeted cleaning. The two robots communicate through the Roomba Home App and work from the same home map, allowing the system to divide a cleaning mission between them.
One AutoWash dock for both units
The Roomba Duo concept uses a shared AutoWash dock with centralized clean-water and wastewater tanks. The station is intended to wash and dry the mops and empty collected dust into a bag.

Why the two-robot architecture matters
Robot-vacuum design usually involves a trade-off. A low, compact body can reach beneath more furniture, but it leaves less room for water, batteries, and heavier cleaning systems. A larger body can carry more capable hardware but loses access to tight spaces.
Roomba Duo treats that problem as a division of labor. It is an ambitious idea, and the deployment mechanism was demonstrated at IFA, but the system remains a prototype.
Roomba Duo price and availability
iRobot is showing Roomba Duo as a prototype at IFA 2026. The company has not announced a consumer release date, price, preorder, or list of launch markets. Its final specifications could change substantially if the concept becomes a retail product.
