Dreame Robot Vacuums: X40, X30, L20 Ultra Lineup Comparison

Dreame has been progressively releasing an advanced lineup of state-of-the-art robot vacuum mop combos, with the newest and most powerful one being the Dreame X40 Ultra robot vacuum.

Dreame’s lineup has more than one star on our Best Robot Vacuum list, but comparing their differences can be challenging. This article will break down the main features of the new Dreame lineup, including the Dreame X40 Ultra, Dreame X30 Ultra, and Dreame L20 Ultra. We’ll explore their differences and help you decide which model best fits your needs.

The Dreame Lineup: The Basics

Dreame X40 Ultra

The newest flagship model from Dreame, the X40 Ultra was released in April of 2024 and is the most advanced and powerful model to date. It is packed full of state-of-the-art features, making it a true premium-level robotic vacuum. See our full review for an in-depth look at this model.

Dreame X40

The Dreame X40 Ultra Robot Vacuum offers powerful 12,000 Pa suction, excelling in carpet deep cleaning and debris pickup on hard floors and carpets. It features a swinging side brush and an automatic extending mop pad for enhanced edge cleaning. The advanced mopping system uses spinning pads to tackle tough stains like dried coffee and grape juice, with mop pads that lift to avoid wetting carpets and can detach when necessary. Its innovative base station empties the dustbin into a 3.2-liter disposable bag, washes and dries mop pads with hot water and air, refills the mop tank, and cleans the bin using a gear-driven system. Advanced obstacle avoidance utilizes cameras, structured light, lasers, and LED lights, achieving near-perfect avoidance scores. With efficient navigation and a user-friendly app, it cleans large areas without interruption. See additional info

Dreame X30 Ultra

Released in early 2024, the Dreame X30 Ultra is an advanced robotic vacuum with nearly as many high-tech features as the Dreame X40 Ultra. It’s also a premium-level vacuum, albeit slightly more affordable than the X40. See our full review for an in-depth look at this model.

Dreame X30 Robot Vacuum

The Dreame X30 Ultra is a flagship robot vacuum and mop combo that introduces several advanced features over its predecessors. It boasts efficient navigation and obstacle avoidance systems, utilizing a front-mounted camera, 3D structured light, lasers, and an extensive object recognition library to clean effectively, even in the dark. Standout features include hot water washing for mop pads, enhancing cleaning effectiveness, and the new RoboSwing technology, which swings the extendable mop pad in and out of tight spaces for better coverage. The docking station is more compact and features an automatic cleaning mechanism that scrubs its own drip tray, moving closer to complete automation. It also offers flexibility with detergent options and has a larger internal dustbin and battery for extended cleaning sessions. However, despite a higher official suction power, performance tests showed that it underperformed in airflow and carpet deep cleaning compared to the older L20 model. While the X30 Ultra is a highly capable robot vacuum with excellent mopping abilities and advanced features, its raw performance in some areas and higher price point may make the previous L20 Ultra a better value for some users.See additional info

Dreame L20 Ultra

The Dreame X20 Ultra is the earliest model from this lineup. Although still a premium-level robot vacuum, it brings a mix of advanced technology and affordability. See our full review for an in-depth look at this model.

Dreame L20 Ultra robot vacuum at Vacuum Wars

The Dreame L20 Ultra is a premium robot vacuum mop combo, our pick for best robot vacuum of 2023. Its floating anti-tangle brush and single side brush excel in debris pickup on hard floors and carpets, handling pet hair without scattering. The standout dual spinning mopping system, with downward pressure, tackles tough stains effectively. MopExtend technology extends one pad to reach edges, while pads lift 10.5 mm or detach at the dock to protect carpets. The automatic base station features a 3.2L dust bag, mop washing, water refilling, warm-air drying, and a removable tray. Advanced navigation using lidar, AI, and 3D sensors ensures efficient mapping, covering 1,600 square feet per charge. Despite a high price and average crevice and deep-cleaning performance, its robust app features and premium functionality make it a top-tier option for high-end cleaning. See additional info

Who Should Buy Which Model?

It looks to us like Dreame has a little something for everybody, with the X40 being by far the most advanced model, albeit also the most expensive. Let’s find out who each of these Dreame robot vacuums is ideal for.

Dreame X40 Ultra

The Dreame X40 Ultra is by far the most advanced model in this lineup, taking the advanced features of the X30 to the next level. For those who are looking for the highest functionality and the most hands-free experience, the Dreame X40 Ultra is the model we recommend.

Dreame X30 Ultra

If you’re looking for a good balance between price and performance, the Dreame X30 might be right for you. It hits the mid-point between the X40 and L20 in regards to obstacle avoidance and suction power, but more notably, the X30 introduced many of the innovative features now found in the more recent, and pricier, X40. This means you can get a high-tech robot vacuum at a more affordable cost.

Surprisingly however, in our evaluations, the X30 Ultra didn’t perform as well in some areas as the L20, so be sure to check out that review to see which performance metrics are important to you.

Dreame L20 Ultra

For those looking for a reliable option, the Dreame L20 Ultra has demonstrated excellent performance in our studio tests. With a high-functioning dock for managing debris, water and washing its mop pads, many users have been happy that they have added the L20 to their cleaning arsenal.

That said, it is missing some of the more recent and advanced features that the later versions, the X30 and X40, have, like OmniDirt Detection and RoboSwing, along with a higher suction levels. It’s a great option for those looking for a combination of affordability and functionality.
